Spinmyangelsspin has them in a twist

Any chance of Queen Braganza lining up for the Gr1 Cape Fillies Guineas next month were seemingly blown out of the water as she finished down the field in the Class 4 Handicap that headed the card at Hollywoodbets Greyville yesterday.
She needed to win and win convincingly to booked her Guineas berth but she drifted alarmingly in the betting and it was not to be as she faded tamely.
After significant overnight rain the meeting was switched to the poly track but even that may no be an excuse as Spinmyangelsspin made short work of her rivals.
Former assistant to Mike de Kock, Wengi Masawi and his assistant Megan Trott, are the new names on the block assisted by Hollywood Racing who registered their 750th winner as owners.
Spinmyangelsspin arrived at Ashburton with some modest Western Cape form but has come good since the addition of blinkers to her racing equipment.
She took on a useful handicap field yesterday and won with authority.
The well fancied Poursomesugaronme came from well of the pace to snatch second ahead of Mrsglittersparkles.
Louis Goosen’s charge Blazing Fury drifted like and untethered barge in a current on debut and after showing early pace he ran out of steam, finishing a distant third. There were no mistakes yesterday as current championship log leader Craig Zackey settled his mount in off the pace set by Sun In My Pocket and Blazing Fury quickened up smartly to put the race to bed a furlong out. Place Of Practice stayed on for second ahead of favourite Eastern Highlands who was always wide but doing his best work late. Zackey was confident in his post-race interview that the son of Vercingetorix is a horse to keep an eye on.
Blue Poppy looked to be one of the better bets on a tricky card but her supporter blood pressure will have been elevated to dangerous levels as she came from near last to get up close home. She missed the break once again and Calvin Habib was forced to take his medicine and was well off the pace turning for home. However, Habib gave her a clear run at the line and Wendy Whitehead’s filly responded with a fine turn of foot to get home inside the last few jumps to deny Kali Bwana and a game Trail Runner who stayed on for third.
Favourite Councillor made the transition from the long Vaal straight on the turf to the fast Hollywoodbets Greyville poly track with its short straight to land the first leg of the Pick 6. It was not easy in spite of her light weight and good draw and replacement rider Kabelo Matsunyane hard at work a long way from home. Tee Dog tried gamely to stay in the lead but Mike and Mathew de Kock’s charge rallied gamely under Matsunyane’s urgings and she responded gamely to get up close home.
Those students of form who were sharp to the 5kg difference between fourth race favourite Mohandas and Doug Campbell’s mare Sweeter Than Honey on their last meeting should have cashed in. Up with the pace throughout, Mohandas looked to have the race at his mercy come the dash for the line but Athandiwe Mgudlwa produced his mount in a finely time ride to snaffle the favourite and give wide awake form-studiers something to crow about.
‘Absolute stampede’ is a well worn cliché but that was the case in the Class Four, fifth race in the card, as Ombudsman finally got the better of his rivals inside the last 50m. Sean Tarry does not raid KZN unless he thinks his runners can pay their way. Trail Runner found Blue Poppy a handful but did finish in the money and Ombudsman paid for his float-ride.
It was anyone’s call approaching the final 50m but Ombudsman finally got clear with Ragnar The King edging French Trip for the minor placings ahead of a bunched chasing pack.
Top weight was not enough to stop Peter Muscutt’s gelding Golden Rule who made amends for a somewhat disappointing showing when difficult to settle when favourite last time out. Up with the pace at his last two, replacement rider Tristan Godden managed to ease his mount in off the pace and produced when it mattered, streaking clear of the opposition crossing the subway to win as he liked. Amor Fati made a belated effort to close the leeway but to no avail.
Jarett Rugg was one of the characters at Flamingo Park in Kimberley before the closure of the track and before circumstances forced him into another direction. But Nicholas Patel was always a staunch supporter of his yard. Patel has found a new home with MJ Odendaal and Gareth van Zyl and is as a more than capable lightweight. Given the chance, he showed when getting Mystique Rouge home in the last for Odendaal. Always handy and kicking for home early, he made short work of the opposition, Amafort and Oh My Gucci Girl.

Kannemeyer makes all the rules

The Dean Kannemeyer-trained Gimmie Rules stamped his Gr 1 Hollywoodbets Cape Guineas credentials in no uncertain terms at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth on Saturday when displaying his fine turn of foot and winning a B Stakes event over 1400m comfortably under Craig Zackey, despite still showing obvious signs of inexperience.
Officially he was the joint best weighted horse according to official merit ratings together with Coastal Commander, but it nevertheless takes a special horse to come from off a slow pace and running green and wide into the straight on the tight Hollywoodbets Kenilworth Winter course and still getting up, let alone a three-year-old doing it facing decent older horses in a merit rated band event (B Stakes) off a 98 merit rating.
He made it look easy, making up most of the leeway under the hands until being given some backhanders at the 200m mark that saw him extending and he then coasted home to beat Handsome Prince by half-a-length with Jet Rules a head further back.
Kannemeyer pointed out the penny had still not dropped.
It was after all only the fourth career start for the Gimmethegreenlight colt.
He said, “He doesn’t know what it is all about (yet). Looking at him coming around the turn he was still all at sea.”
He added, “I had no doubt this horse would stay on and he’s looking for a mile.”
He revealed, “I brought him here last week and put him in behind a horse to teach him to quicken up. You could see he still didn’t know what to do today, but once he flattened out he started to go away. But we always said from the beginning here is a horse who will go 1600m to 2000m quite comfortably. So this was his final prep for the Guineas and I can assure that he will only improve with racing. We will have to wait and see. What did he beat today? But he couldn’t do more than win.”
Craig Zackey confirmed the pace was slow.
The strong headwind did help Gimmie Rules though and Zackey said, “Just knowing I was on a strong, strapping horse I knew I could bide my time. I put him under pressure at the 200m mark, but it was only at the line he felt like he was releasing.”
This horse is a full brother to Gimme A Prince and The Real Prince, as well as to Gr 3 winner Gimmie’s Countess, and will be out to give the Kannemeyer yard a tenth Hollywoodbets Cape Guineas success, a seventh for Dean with his father Peter also having won three.
Gimmie Rules and his stalwarts siblings are all by Gimmethegreenlight and all are Khaya Stables homebreds.
Adding to the feeling he will get the mile despite the speed he possesses is that The Real Prince won the Hollywoodbets Durban July, whilst Gimme A Prince is an Equus Champion Sprinter but also placed third in the prestigious Gr 1 wfa L’Ormarinns King’s Plate over a mile.
A look at the draws for the Gr 2 Punters Cup over 1600m on November 22 provides the probable reason why Gimme The Rules ran on Saturday as he drew 17 in the Punters Cup.
He fared way better in the Cape Guineas, landing a fine draw of five.
25 horses appeared in the first entries for the Hollywoodbets Cape Guineas on Monday.
Almost all of the big names are there: Jan van Goyen, Tin Pan Alley, Trust, Vapour Trail, Happy Verse, Good For You and also Viva’s Liberte, who like Gimmie Rules is a Khaya Stables homebred, although he is trained by Candice Bass and he blotted his copybook last time out when only managing fourth in a Class 4 event over 1600m running off a 95.
A notable absentee among the Hollywoodbets Cape Guineas entries is the Candice Dawson-trained Gr 2 Omoda Golden Horseshoe winner Chronicle King, who will obviously stay in Johannesburg and take a more conservative route.
Vaughan Marshall will also be going for a seventh Cape Guineas and will have a strong hand with Vapour Trail and Better Man.
The latter is under the radar, but has impressed in his last two starts, winning over 1600m and 1800m respectively.
However, his form was not too well franked by his runner up last time. King’s Quest, who could only manage a 3,50 length fourth on Saturday in a Class 4 event over 1950m at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth.
In that race the Kannemeyer-trained Khaya Stables homebred Vercingetorix colt Gallic Victor was all the rage but this Cape Guineas entry was beaten 4,55 lengths into fifth place, despite receiving 2kg from the winner Coco’s Hero. The latter is a three-year-old by Fire Away and this James Crawford-trained colt stamped himself as a Gr 1 SplashOut Cape Derby candidate when getting up under Grant van Niekerk.
Meanwhile, Gimmie Rules is now 5/2 favourite for the Hollywoodbets Cape Guineas with the sponsor. Jan van Goyen is at 5/1 Tin Pan Alley is 7/1, Good For You is 8/1 and Trust and Malmesbury Missile are both 10/1 shots.

What is Colossus Bets?
Imagine betting into massive, guaranteed prize pools, often reaching life-changing sums, with the added power of controlling your bet as the action unfolds. That’s the essence of Colossus Bets! It’s a revolutionary way to play, combining the thrill of traditional tote betting with unparalleled flexibility.
Understanding the Bet Types & Functionality:
Colossus Bets specialises in pool betting, where you bet against other players. The total money wagered is placed into a “pool”, and the prize money is shared among all winning tickets. The more people who play, the larger the potential jackpot!
Some of the Bet Types on offer
- Pick 1×2: This is a straightforward pool where you predict the result of each match – Home Win (1), Draw (X), or Away Win (2).
- Correct Score: This is a more challenging but potentially more lucrative pool, where you must predict the exact final result of each match
- Both Teams to Score: This is for fans of goals and fast paced action. Your task is to simply predict whether or not both teams will score at least one goal in a selected series of matches
Innovative Functionality
- Cash Out: This feature allows you to lock in a profit before all matches (legs) in your ticket are completed. After each leg, Colossus bets will make you an offer to buy your ticket based on its current value. You can choose to accept the guaranteed payout or stay in the game for a chance at the full jackpot.
- Syndicate Betting: Colossus Bets offers a unique way to play through Syndicate Tickets, allowing Players to team up and increase their chances of winning. Creating a Syndicate – If you have a betting strategy or consider yourself a “Pro”, you can create a Syndicate Ticket and invite other Players to contribute towards the payment of the ticket. Joining a Syndicate – Alternatively, you can join a Syndicate Ticket that another Player has already created. When you contribute to a Syndicate Ticket, you will own a share of that ticket. This share is directly proportional to the amount of money you contributed. If the Syndicate Ticket wins, you will receive a proportionate share of any returns (such as dividends or cash-out proceeds) based on your contribution. In essence, Syndicate Tickets allows Players to pool their resources, share the risk, and share the rewards!
- Guaranteed Huge Sports Pools: Colossus Bets offers guaranteed prize pools often reaching life-changing proportions. This means greater potential payouts for a winning ticket!
- Consolation Prizes: For many pools, if you narrowly miss the jackpot by getting a number of the selections correct, you can still win a share of a consolation prize. This means that you can still get a payout even if your ticket isn’t a perfect winner.
