Preview: 6 QUIET WINTER has run two good races, but is coming off a four-month break. 5 PERFECT MIRACLE is by Hawwaam, out of a Tiger Ridge mare. 3 FORBIDDEN FRUIT  is by Canford Cliffs out of a Silvano mare. 1 LOST FOR WORDS can improve on her debut against a useful sort, but she has not raced for well over a year. Preview: 1 FOLLOW THE MASTER has improved since being stepped up to middle distance and staying trips and should go close again.3 HEROIC ACT is also usually thereabouts and could be in the shake-up. 5 GIFT OF ROYAL could earn in this line-up. 2 SANTIAGO’S PRIDE has shown glimpses of ability and is drawn in pole. Preview: 6 ART NOUVEAU should go close over a suitable trip from a good draw. 5 AZALEAS FOR ALL is in good form and is distance suited and could be the one to beat, although she does have a tricky draw. 3 TEO TORRIATTE won in fine style last time, but does have to overcome a seven point raise.1 FETCHING FLYER has shown some good form over this trip and has a chance if able to overcome a wide draw. Preview: 2 LAUGHING WILLIAM is course and distance suited and drawn in pole can make amends for a disappointing run last time. 3 AFTER HOURS is an honest sort who is capable of running on and he can possibly overcome a three-point race for a start to finish win last time. 4 CLARKSON is capable of a strong finish, so could do well in this race after an easy win over this trip last time. 7 LAST GINGER has been thereabouts in her last few starts and could earn with a repeat. Preview: 4 PHIL THE FLUTER is in great form and can make it a hattrick care over an ideal trip. 1 BIRTHRIGHT won well last time over 1600m and should take to this trip well. 2 PRESSONREGARDLESS can be right there over a suitable trip if able to overcome a wide draw. 3 WILLOW EXPRESS is capable of a strong finish and could be dropped out from a wide draw. Preview: 5 WESTERN WISHES should go close if repeating either of her last two starts. 4 SUNSET WARRIOR has a form chance in this field. 6 MICKE’S BOMB is always capable of popping up. 8 ORIENTAL BOUQUEThas dropped to an attractive merit rating considering considering the early class she showed and she could a contender in this line-up. Preview: 6 WARM WINTER NITE disappointed over this course and distance in his penultimate start, but has otherwise been in fine form and he could do well here from a high draw. 9 BLIZZARD SNOW won well last time over course and distance and with a 4kg claimer aboard can overcome a three-point raise. 8 HALBERDIER is a capable sort and can’t be ignored from a middle draw. 3 ONE FELL SWOOP is in fair form and could earn again. Turffontein Standside stages a nine race meeting today that should be full of interest.

The highest rated race at the meeting is the last race, a MR100 Handicap over 1160 meters. Warm Winter Nite looks to have a good chance from a nice high draw. Last time he bounced back to form with a good second over 1000 meters under Kabelo Matsunyane, who knows him very well and stays aboard. Blizzard Snow has been in fine form with two wins and a second in his last two starts, all over this course and distance. She had a 4kg claimer aboard last time and gets a 4kg claimer aboard here again and she has a nice high draw. Halberdier is not reliable but he is capable of popping up and from a middle draw he could be right there off a mark just one point higher than his last win. One fell swoop has been consistently thereabouts lately and should be in the shake-up again under in-formed Chad Little. Passage of Power has a low draw to contend with, but with S’Manga Khumalo up, he can’t be discounted as he will appreciate the return to this course and distance.

In the first leg of the pick six over 2000m Art Nouveau looks the one to beat as she is in fine form with two wins and a second in her last three starts and now has a plum draw with Chad Little up over a suitable course and distance. Azaleas for All is in good form too and is distance suited. She should be right there if able to overcome a tricky draw. Teo Torriatte is in fine form and goes for a hattrick, but she does have to overcome a seven-point raise, although a 4kg claimer aboard will help. Fetching Flyer should appreciate the return to 2000, but does have a wide draw to overcome. Free In Seattle is a consistent sort and St. John Gray has been in good form, so she could be a contender if able to overcome a wide draw.

In the fifth race over 1,800m Bob Lee Swagger is drawn in pole and after a fine run first time out the maiden’s over 2000m with the blinkers on he should go close. Storm Ahead is in good form and from a good draw of three could be in the shake-up over an ideal course and distance. Instant Attraction disappointed last time, but if bouncing back to her best she could do well under 1.5 kilogram claimer Trent Mayhew. Gamer represents the in form Gray yard and from a good draw should be involved. Flag Bearer has disappointed in his last two starts, but if able to bounce back to his best he could place under a 4kg claimer.

In the sixth race over 1600m Laughing William has a pole position draw and has shown signs of coming to hand. He has won over this course and distance before and the blinkers seem to have woken him up in his last three starts, so he is an interesting runner. After Hours is an honest sort. who is capable of running on and he can possibly overcome a three-point raise for a start to finish win last time, which went against his normal way of racing which is to come from off the pace. Clarkson is capable of a strong finish, so could do well in this race after an easy win over this trip last time, although he does have to overcome a four-point raise. Last Ginger has been thereabouts in his last two starts and can earn again with a 4kg claimer up. Johnny Drama won well over this trip last time and only has a two-point raise to overcome and has a fair draw, although he does have to carry joint top weight with Laughing William.

In the seventh race over 1400m Phil The Fluter goes for a hat trick and from a plum draw of two could do it over this suitable trip. He is by Vercingetorix and looks to be on the up. Birthright usually runs handy, so should enjoy this slight step down in trip, although he does have to overcome a five-point raise for hi win over 1600m last time. Pressonregardless is a consistent sort and is ideally distance suited, but he does have a wide draw to overcome under Craig Zackey. Willow Express is capable of running on, so could do well under a 4kg claimer from a wide draw. Great Notion disappointed over 1200m last time, but will appreciate the step up in and could bounce back from a plum draw.

In the eighth race over 1160m Western Wishes should go close if repeating either of her last two starts over this suitable trip from a fair draw. Sunset Warrior appreciated the step down to 1200m last time and has the form to be a contender here. Micke’s Bomb is none too reliable, but she often takes advantage her good opportunities, such as this one, and she has a nice high draw. Oriental Bouquet looked to be headed for the top at one stage, so she could do with a feather weight, although she is officially under sufferance. Across the bow could earn from a high draw here with a light weight.

In the first leg of the PA Follow the Master has improved since being stepped up to middle distances and staying trips and should go close again. Heroic Act is consistently thereabouts and looks to be the main danger.

In the first leg of the Bipot over 1160m Quiet Winter has run two good races, but is coming off a four month break. Perfect Miracle is by Hawwaam out of a  Tiger Ridge mare and Chad Little is aboard, albeit from a low draw. Forbidden Fruit is by Canford Cliffside out of a Silvano Mare and also makes some appeal.

In the first race over 1160m Clever Trevor made a fine debut and doesn’t look to have much to beat, although betting on the first-times should be monitored.

RACE 1

(3) GLOBAL DRUMBEAT has been racing consistently, his last run was decent, so he will be a factor here stepping up in trip. (2) PROLIFIC STAR ran in front of the top selection in his last start so there won’t be much to choose, he should go very close in this contest. His last run was good and goes back over this extended trip of 1900m now. (1) BRIGHAM has been racing well and is another with a big chance. He makes his provincial debut and must be respected. (4) SEMPRE BELLA ran a much improved race when going over 2000m and can continue to build on that run. (Devonne Govender 3-2-1-4)

RACE 2

(1) PIBE DE ORO hasn’t been far recently and rates a winning chance. (4) STAND UP ran well in the last start and will be in the firing line. (3) CLIFFIE CLAVIN placed at big odds and is capable of making his presence felt if repeating that run. (7) GREY WARRIOR has scope to improve and isn’t completely out of this contest. Watch the betting for any support on Glimmer Of Light when making you final decision in this open looking race. (Devonne Govender 1-4-3-7)

(6) BUDDLEJA ran a cracker in the last start and will be the firm first selection. (1) DESERT CLOUD is always in the mix, she represents Highveld form which generally stands up strong in the province hence she will have every chance in this line up however does have a tough draw. (2) MIDNIGHT MUSIC is holding form as she has never been far back recently, on best form she can make the frame. (4) PENNY’S WORLD is capable of getting into the quartets so include in larger perms. RACE 4

(1) INDEBE MAYIBUYE is holding consistent form and will be tough to beat here. (5) SWISS WALT won extremely well in the last and will be a strong contender once again, he will be the main danger to the top selection. (8) LARIUS LACUS has scope to go well with the claimer up however it’s never easy out the maidens. (2) KINGS AGAIN represents Highveld form and is very capable of getting involved and must be respected. (Devonne Govender 1-5-8-2).

RACE 5

(7) BONJOUR LA VILLE won extremely well in the last start, she only has 56kgs to shoulder and looks a serious contender. (3) ARTICUNO is capable of much better so that last run is best ignored. (9) ENCHANTING LADY is always in the mix and she is very capable of winning this so must be respected. (11) HER ROYALTY gets the claimer up and can run into the money so can go into larger perms. RACE 6

(11) ARIVIDICIO is holding decent enough form to be very competitive in this line up. He has run some cracking races on the poly so will be the firm first selection. (7) THUNDER MASTER ran well in the last start and needs to repeat that performance to feature here, a must include in all bets. He steps up in trip to 1600m now compared to recent runs however does get the claimer up, he can produce a big finish on his day so could represent value. (5) A BIT CHILLY ran a cracker at big odds in the last start, Calvin Habib retains the ride and a huge performance can be expected. (3) KINGDOM OF HEAVEN finished 3rd in his last start which was a decent performance, with Yeni in the saddle he cannot be discounted. (Devonne Govender 11-7-5-3).

RACE 7

(4) DOWSER has been dropping in the ratings, he has been holding solid form and rates a strong winning chance. (5) WAZ WOUTER is in top form, another huge performance can be expected. (1) MASTER FORESTER is very capable on his day, he hasn’t been far in recent starts. If he brings his ‘A’ game he will blow this field away. (10) FLOWER FESTIVAL has been consistent and run into the placings. (Devonne Govender 4-5-1-10).

RACE 8

(3) WORDSWORTH has been racing consistently will be the top selection. He is as honest as the day is long and a bold showing is expected. (12) KING RAHUL has been threatening to win in recent starts and with some luck in running he will be in the mix so respect. (4) GUARDING THE WALL hasn’t been far in recent starts and cannot be ignored in this line, he can win this on best form. (5) LUCKY SPIRIT placed at huge odds in the last start and can make the frame again so include. (Devonne Govender 3-12-4-5)
