Two Middle Stakes events are the highest rated races at an intriguing nine race meeting at Turffontein Inside today.
The first of them is over 1700m and Silent War is the one to beat. This horse has a notably good turn of foot, but has never gone this trip before. He is by Gimmethegreenlight out of an Australian-bred sprinter by Commands, so that does not make him seeing out this trip a certainty. However, last time over 1600m he chased the winner home all the way to the line and was 4,25 lengths clear of the rest of the field. That was from a draw of five and he now has a draw of three. Stable jockey Calvin Habib has ridden him three times before and replaces Piere Strydom. On the downside he is 1kg under sufferance with the many who are joint best-weighted. Player was beaten 6,50 by Silent War last time but is better than that. He was drawn ten that time but now has a good draw of four and Muzi Yeni gets the ride, so he should get closer. Supreme Dance had pole position over 1800m last time and won. He has pole position again and has won off a 90 merit rating before, so his three point raised mark here of 89 is not insurmountable, even if his win off a 90 came in June 2022. La Moohal looks to be a promising three-year-old and is progressing nicely considering his easy three length win over 1600m last time. On pedigree this Vercingetorix gelding out of a Trippi mare will get the trip, but he does have a tricky draw of seven to overcome. Pyromaniac has a lot of talent and if things pan out well for him is top class. He was beaten just 0,70 lengths last time by the well weighted Gimme A Shot but that was from draw five out of nine and he now has draw nine out of ten. Funky Music usually runs over a 1400m distance category but in three tries over 1600m has won twice and been unplaced behind the classy Barbaresco. Therefore, he is interesting over this trip for a trainer he has thrived for from a draw of five with a 4kg claimer up. The joint best-weighted are all of Pyromaniac, La Moohal, Supreme Dance, Player and Vesuvio.
In the second Middle Stakes event over 1200m Mid Winter Wind looks to be on the way to being a feature race campaigner and looks hard to oppose from pole position. She has won her last three between 1160m and 1400m and the form has generally worked out well. She is officially 2kg under sufferance with the best weighed but the best weighted is a filly, Chrome Tourmaline. The latter does have fine sprint form and is drawn four so could be right there. However, Tsar Bomba is preferred as he is consistent and comes off a nice win over course and distance. Aussenkehr is another course and distance suited one. Zinovi has a breathing issue but can never be ignored as he is talented, but he does have a wide draw.
In the first leg of the Pick 6 There’s A Light is drawn in pole as opposed to having a tricky draw when just failing over this trip category last time on the Standside track. However, And Action and Strewn Sky look to have the ability to progress further and are well drawn so must be included.
In the second leg Halberdier looks to be a banker as he ran just 2,25 lengths behind the talented One Fell Swoop last time when way out at he weights, although he does have a tricky draw so the risk averse can include Circus Light, Twice As Wild, Longsword, Smelting and Wings Of Nike.
In the seventh race Judgement Day impressed in his win last time and is on the up, but A Place In The Sun is also on the up and can’t be left out.
In the last leg Run For Cover looks the one to side with, but Feel All Right and Van Meijel have also shown glimpses of ability and can be included.
In the first leg of the Bipot Legend Of Arthur can be bankered from pole position in this 1450m event.
In the first leg of the PA Someday Maybe and EmpressofNormandy should fight it out.

(4-5-6-1)
RACE 3
2 SOMEDAY MAYBE 1 EMPRESSOFNORMANDY 6 DRAGON DRAGON 7 FROSTED GREEN
Preview: 2 SOMEDAY MAYBE has been knocking on the door and has a chance but the draw makes it tough. 1 EMPRESSOFNORMANDY has a form chance but also has a tough draw. 6 DRAGON DRAGON made a moderate debut but has a good draw here and could improve. 7 FROSTED GREEN is by Gimmethegreenlight out of Gr 2 SA Fillies Nursery runner up Frosted Honey (Western Winter). (2-1-6-7)
RACE 4
1 THERES A LIGHT 3 AND ACTION 4 STREWN SKY 9 THE PLAYBOY BOMBER
Preview: 1 THERES A LIGHT only just failed last time from a wide draw over this trip category and is now drawn in pole. 3 AND ACTION disappointed last time but should enjoy the step up in trip from a plum draw. 4 STREWN SKY improved over 1160m last time after a layoff and now steps up to a more suitable trip and has a good draw. 9 THE PLAYBOY BOMBER has run two fair races over this trip category and should begin improving but does have a tough draw. (1-3-4-9)
RACE 5
1 HALBERDIER 5 CIRCUS LIGHTS 9 TWICE AS WILD 6 LONGSWORD
Preview: 1 HALBERDIER can win this if reproducing his last start, which was a fine 2,25 length fifth to One Fell Swoop in a Gr 3 over 1160m but he does have although draw. 5 CIRCUS LIGHTS went close last time over course and distance and off a three point higher mark has another fair draw. 9 TWICE AS WILD is just two points higher after a course and distance win from a wide draw and now has a plum draw. 6 LONGSWORD has been disappointing but tries shorter off a two points lower merit rating from a wide draw. (1-5-9-6)
RACE 6
2 SILENT WAR 9 PLAYER 5 SUPREME DANCE 8 LA MOOHAL
Preview: 2 SILENT WAR went close last time over 1600m and will enjoy this course and distance from a good draw. 9 PLAYER is talented and is well drawn over a suitable trip, but he is only 2kg better off with Silent War for a 6,50 length beating. 5 SUPREME DANCE won well over 1800m last time and is drawn in pole again. 8 LA MOOHAL does look to have some promise but does have a tricky draw here. (2-9-5-8)
RACE 7
5 JUDGEMENT DAY 6 A PLACE IN THE SUN 7 LIBECCIO 2 PRICELESS
Preview: 5 JUDGEMENT DAY won well last time and looks to be on the up so can follow up first time out the maidens off an 82 merit rating over a trip he was a fine close up second over to Marauding Horde in his penultimate start. 6 A PLACE IN THE SUN has improved and could make another bold bid 7 LIBECCIO is distance suited and has Fourie up off a four point higher mark for his last win. 2 PRICELESS had some good Cape Town form and made a fair debut on the Highveld after a layoff, so would not be a surprise winner. (5-6-7-2)
RACE 8
5 MID WINTER WIND 4 TSAR BOMBA 1 AUSSENKEHR 3 ZINOVI
Preview: 5 MID WINTER WIND is improving all the time and looks capable of becoming a feature campaigner so can make it four in a row from pole position over an ideal trip. 4 TSAR BOMBA is talented and won well over course and distance last time but does have a tricky draw. 1 AUSSENKEHR is course and distance suited and has a fair draw. 3 ZINOVI is capable but has breathing issues and a wide draw. (5-4-1-3)
RACE 9
3 RUN FOR COVER 1 FEEL ALL RIGHT 9 VAN MEIJEL 2 PUTINS PROMISE
Preview: 3 RUN FOR COVER is in good form and has a much better draw than last time when a disappointing fourth over 1600m and he will prefer this trip. 1 FEEL ALL RIGHT won his maiden easily last time in his 12th career start but does now have to carry topweight off a 79 merit rating, although it is not a strong field and he has a good draw with a 4kg claimer up. 9 VAN MEIJEL has been a touch disappointing in his first two starts out the maidens but should enjoy this trip and has a fair draw. 2 PUTINS PROMISE is off a dangerous mark but does have a tough draw. #7 Sweet Diamond is racing well and he deserves another win. He’s placed in three out of his last four outings and has proven before that he is able to overcome wide draws. #3 Rattan World won well three starts ago and he’s still in great condition. He’s a three-time winner this season with the form, ability and gate to win again. #7 Superb Boy is looking to snap a trio of runner-up efforts. He slots in light and continues to finish thereabouts. #2 All For St Paul’s continues to defy market expectations by either winning from the front or running very well, which once again, he is capable of doing here under familiar ally Matthew Poon. #5 Flaming Rabbit is better than his form suggests. He can bounce back.
Race 4: Faculty Of Education Alumni Handicap
#2 The Great Master gets a handy 10 pounds taken off his back. Expecting him to lead early in a bid to try and pinch this one. #7 The Perfect Match makes his debut with Zac Purton aboard. He’s been trialling well and definitely appears forward enough to figure on debut in Hong Kong. #14 Prosecco continues to race well even without winning. He slots in light and ticks several boxes once again. #1 Super Commander has the class edge. He’ll roll forward in a bid to offset the wide ally.
Race 5: The CUHK Alumni Cup Handicap (1st Section)
#2 Daring Pursuit is chasing back-to-back wins. He has the scope to keep improving and is favoured this weekend with 10 pounds taken off his back due to the apprentice’s booking. #3 Golden Rise won well three starts ago and has continued to race well. Zac Purton’s aboard and he gets his chance from gate three. #4 Flying Mojito is much better suited to this grade and he can begin to show something now. #9 Gimme Five has been consistent across two runs in Hong Kong. He’ll race well once more.
Race 6: Graduate School Alumni Handicap (2nd Section)
#3 Voyage Samurai has his fair share of talent and his two runs so far in Hong Kong have been superb, finishing second last start after winning on debut. He draws ideally and gets his chance here. #8 Packing Wisher is on the quick back-up after racing at the midweek fixture. Zac Purton hops up and he bears close watching. #11 Patch Of Time is lightly raced but does appear to steadily be piecing it all together. He does have the wide draw to overcome though. #12 Chilli Baba is still open to more improvement and he has claims.
Race 7: Shaw Alumni Handicap
#4 Superb Kid has done well throughout his first season of racing in Hong Kong. He’s a one-time winner and this contest appears more than suitable, especially with Zac Purton electing to ride. #8 Beauty Fit has been remarkably consistent all season, aside from a few of his recent runs. Expecting him to bounce back to his best here. #11 Beauty Missile slots in light and finds a suitable draw. He’s in sound form and he should be able to make his presence felt. #1 Huge wave turned his form around last start and deserves respect.
Race 8: Lee Woo Wing Alumni Handicap
#4 King Miles hit the ground running in Hong Kong with an excellent effort to finish fourth first-up. He can improve out of that run and shapes as the one they all must beat. #6 Storming Dragon makes his debut. His latest trial was solid and he can make an impact this weekend. #2 Super Legends is lightly raced but does have his fair share of ability. He goes about his racing well and the inside gate is favourable. #1 You’remyeverything has returned to form in Class 4. He can contend strongly with five pounds coming off his back.
Race 9: CW Chu And Wu Yee Sun Alumni Handicap
#13 Winning Data is in career-best form with a trio of wins from his last four starts. He draws ideally once more and is worth taking a chance on up in grade. #9 Silver Up continues to improve and he’s proven consistent so far in Hong Kong. He gets a super chance to breakthrough this weekend. #3 Frantanck got his win two starts back and should get an opportunity here from the suitable gate. #8 Beato has been racing well and deserved his win three starts back. He can make his presence felt with Zac Purton up.
Race 10: Morningside And S.H. Ho Alumni Handicap
#1 Gorgeous Win is talented and he’s chasing a hat-trick of wins this weekend. He remains in Class 3 following recent efforts and gets another chance here. RACE 1
1st Pick: BILLY ELLIOT (9)
Draws well on the weekend with one of the leading jockeys Bruno Queiroz in the saddle. Finished fourth behind a nice horse on the Poly track last time in Summer Wind and can improve of that run.
2nd Pick: FLYING FIGHTER (11)
He hasn’t placed in his six starts here in Singapore. Gets a moderate barrier draw on the weekend for Nunes and had excuses last start when racing wide.
3rd Pick: OTAHUHU (3)
Broke his maiden last start when in a weaker field and now must carry 59kg on the weekend. Could surprise but will need to bring his best.
4th Pick: ANYWAY (8)
Won well last start in this grade and has more race experience then most of these. Will need to push forward from the outside gate. Going well.
RACE 2
1st Pick: ACE NINE (4)
Huge run last time out in open maiden company finishing second, should take natural improvement now coming into this field. Great barrier and Nunes sticks aboard. Main player.
2nd Pick: SPIETH HEROINE (8)
She races well over 1400m and stormed home from the back of the field last start and had excuses the whole way up the straight. Can put in a peak performance here.
3rd Pick: CITYGOLD LIGHTNING (6)
Finished third last start in restricted maiden grade, now comes onto the turf and steps up to 1400m. Good draw and Curatolo is in the saddle. Watch betting.
4th Pick: BOARDROOM (5)
Loomed up as a chance last start and just peaked on his run. Should get a soft run from the barrier and is still getting settled here in Singapore.
RACE 3
1st Pick: JING JIN (7)
He has put in two of his best performances of late. Sat on speed last start and boxed on down the straight. Gets Nunes in the saddle again and will push forward from the outside barrier.
2nd Pick: SCHNEIDER (3)
He is going well. He has a strong turn of foot and can be very competitive in class 5. Queiroz is back in the saddle this weekend and he shouldn’t have any concerns from the barrier.
3rd Pick: BIG DAY (12)
He has slowly been improving up to the mark and now finds a weaker field to finish closer. He will drag back from the outside gate but can fly home. Apprentice claims. Okay.
4th Pick: BOSS HENG HENG (1)
Last start winner in this grade when leading all the way. Similar race here with the same level of opposition. Obtains a great barrier and can go close again. Watch betting.
RACE 4
1st Pick: IN ALL HIS GLORY (1)
Returns to class four and over the same course and distance that saw him win back in November last year off the same rating. Trainer always has him firing off this mark.
2nd Pick: SMART STAR (3)
Has finished behind the talented Makin his last two starts on the turf but gets back on the Polytrack where he is one for one at this course and distance.
3rd Pick: STAR NORTH (4)
Very subpar performance last start that wasn’t his best but seems to have bounced back from that poor un and looking to give him another go here. Has ability and drawn well.
4th Pick: TENNET TENTENNET (5)
Has risen up the ratings since winning his first race back in December and scoring on two more occasions since then. He continues to improve and looks an each way play in this.
RACE 5
1st Pick: FOUNTAIN OF FAME (2)
He will one of the leading chances in this race and is very consistent on the Poly track. Will need to roll across from the outside gate but should go close.
2nd Pick: SIRIUS (9)
Ran well two starts back behind Pacific Charm and just faded in his most recent performance. Should get an okay run from the draw and Queiroz is onboard.
3rd Pick: HEY BOSS (3)
Will drag back from the gate but can power home on his best day. Still looking to get amongst the placings but is lightly raced.
4th Pick: THE STAR (6)
A couple of nice performances in his career. Gets the in-form jockey Ryan Curatolo in the saddle and had a recent trial. Okay draw.
RACE 6
1st Pick: LIM’S SALTORO (1)
Unbeaten in four starts and putting his hand up as one of our best four-year-olds this season. The 59kgs is the big question mark but he has class on his side.
2nd Pick: LEGACY FORTUNE (5)
Comes into this with one win and two second placings from his last three starts but is dropping back in distance. Not a negative though he has won at 1400m in the past.
3rd Pick: GREEN STAR (3)
His last win came back in November of last year but looking for a positive performance after his most recent trial win last Thursday clocking a nice 1:00.43. Keep him safe.
4th Pick: SUMMER WIND (11)
Looks a lightweight chance for our leading stable and his early speed helped him score two runs ago. Lost no fans with that recent fourth place performance behind Energy Baby.
RACE 7
1st Pick: SMOKE AND MIRRORS (3)
He now drops down to class 5 and does his best racing on the turf over 1400m. He should push forward from the outside barrier and find a handy position. Leading chance.
2nd Pick: FORTUNE WHEEL (1)
Drops down in class and gets Lerner aboard which is a plus. He won over 1400m the last time he dropped to class 5. Awkward barrier but will find this a lot easier. Key player.
3rd Pick: SMART ONE (2)
Finished second behind Pacific General last start when coming back to class 5, didn’t jump well and raced keenly throughout. Gets a perfect draw on this occasion and can measure up to these.
4th Pick: OCEAN JUPITER (9)
Up-and-coming 3yo who is building up a handy record (10-0-3-2) and could be a place chance here again. Woodworth is aboard and might try to be up on speed.
RACE 8
1st Pick: JUNGLE CRUISE (2)
Stable having a great season and this gelding looking to make it back-to-back wins after scoring over a mile last start. Lightly raced on the Polytrack with just the two starts.
2nd Pick: A BETTER TOMORROW (3)
Got that long awaited win last start in a moderate field so he needs to find another gear to go on with it here. Now he has a taste of winning he can go forward.
3rd Pick: PACIFIC SPIRIT (9)
Brings winning form from his last run where he looped the field with a dominant turn of foot. TH Koh booked to take the steer.
4th Pick: NINEONEONE (5)
Didn’t really fire a shot last start behind Longevity but the race was run to suit those up on the pace as they walked in the middle stages. If they go quicker here, he can figure.
RACE 9
1st Pick: LIGHTNING STRIKE (8)
Looking to make it five wins on the bounce as he starts his Singapore Derby campaign that comes up in July. He continues to improve and has four wins from eight starts.
2nd Pick: ENERGY BABY (6)
Two starts back was heavily backed to win and justified that support but backed It up with another win two weeks ago. Tries hard and has the will to win in a tight finish.
3rd Pick: EJAZ (4)
Second up this Saturday after finishing fourth to City Gold Star who he faces again here but a very lightly raced four-year-old who has big targets in the middle of the season.
4th Pick: FLYING NEMO (3)
One of Singapores smallest sized gallopers but has a big engine under that 434kg frame. His win two starts ago after being caught wide was exceptional.
RACE 10
1st Pick: MAKIN (8)
Turning heads in recent performances and comes here well at the weights as he makes his class 2 debut. Talented type and continues to improve each run. Nunes sticks aboard.
2nd Pick: DREAM ALLIANCE (2)
Very unlucky as were four others for the Group 3 Committee’s Prize last start and is a Gold Cup runner up. He is a key player in the season features later but can win along the way.
3rd Pick: CAVALRY (6)
Comes here first up after bleeding at his last start back in August last year. Has Four trials under his belt coming into this. Not to forget being a Singapore Derby runner up last year.
4th Pick: PROSPEROUS RETURN (1)
Thrown in here to back up that last start performance behind Lim’s Kosciuszko last weekend where he placed third at huge odds. Group 1 winner and has the class.
RACE 11
1st Pick: ALWAYS TOGETHER (1)
Toughed it out in a tight finish last start but had to give the winner eight kilograms in weight and just wasn’t able to hold on. Very consistent class four sprinter.
2nd Pick: ITALIAN REVOLUTION (5)
Jumped and led last start but dropped out of it the final furlong to finish tenth. Should find something extra here on the Polytrack and won a recent trial. Blinkers go on so watch betting.
3rd Pick: KING ZOUSTAR (3)
Looks well placed again here the ten-time winner who rarely runs a bad race. Is finding it hard to win as he gets older, but he isn’t far away from the winners recently.
4th Pick: COLONEL SON (6)
Showed great early speed from a wide draw last start and won by a length. Both of his Kranji wins have come on this surface.
