Preview: 10 FIERY ROSE has finished second in both starts and stands out among those who have run. 9 TITAN OF THE TURF is by William Longsword out of a Judpot mare and Craig Zackey rides.7 LANNYBOY  is by Lance out of a Call To Combat mare and Calvin Habib is aboard. 3 GREEN CHERRY was backed on debut and was not disgraced and makes a comeback after a disappointing follow-up run so could improve with the lay-off. 10 SEASON’S GREETINGS improved second time out and has a nice high draw under Gavin Lerena. 13 WISE COUNSEL ran a fair debut and should improve. 12 WINDSOR SILK is by Act of War out of a Silvano mare and is a half sister to a three-time winner from 1400m to 1450m in just seven0 starts.11 SURREAL SONG is by Vercingetorix out of a Duke Of Marmalade mare. 4 RODEO DRIVE 5 CHIEFTAIN 7 HALBERDIER 1 COSMIC STAR
Preview: 4 RODEO DRIVE is a talented sort who has not risen to the heights expected this season but can perhaps bounce back here. 5 CHIEFTAIN is a talented and improving sort and could get it right here having gone close last time over this trip. 7 HALBERDIER beat Chieftain by 1.1 lengths last time and is only 0,5kg worse off, although weight for age improvement must be taken into account for Chieftain.1 COSMIC STAR enjoys this course and distance and if able to overcome the worst draw of one by trends then he can be right there.  (David Thiselton 4-5-7-1)

Preview: 7 HEMISPHERE Hemisphere is in good form and looks to be the one to beat here. 8 RAFA BAY should also be involved in the finish with Gavin Lerena up. 4 JOHN WICK  is never far off them and has a chance here. 2 BOURBON RESERVE disappointed last time but is better than that run. (David Thiselton 7-8-4-2)

8 GLAMOROUS LADY 2 CEUTA 4 MISS HANNIGAN 3 QUEEN OF LOVE
Preview: 8 GLAMOROUS LADY is drawn in pole and has the form to go close. 2 CEUTA won well last time and despite a seven point higher merit rating could earn again from a fair draw. 4 MISS HANNIGAN  is in good hard knocking form but does have a tricky draw. 3 QUEEN OF LOVE disappointed last time but is much better than that start and Piere Strydom now rides. 2 PRINCESS ILARIA 7 QUANTUM 10 GODSPEED 8 CAPE SAFFRON
Preview: 2 PRINCESS ILARIA  is in fine hard knocking form and from a pole position draw is the one to beat. 7 QUANTUM is usually there abouts but does have a tricky draw to overcome. 10 GODSPEED  is never far off them and from a fair draw off a lowered merit rating might be in the shake up. 8 CAPE SAFFRON won well in the maidens last time and starts off in a reasonable 73 merit rating. 7 PHALA MILLIONS 6 PRIZED PLATINUM 3 GIMME A STORM 2 TOKYO MEDAGLIA
Preview: 7 PHALA MILLIONS is in fine form and deserves a win, although his low draw could be tricky. 6 PRIZED PLATINUM  is never far off them and could earn again.3 GIMME A STORM  is capable of finishing in the money. 2 TOKYO MEDAGLIA should be thereabouts in this field. (David Thiselton 7-6-3-2)

The highest rated race at the Turffontein Standside meeting today is a MR 102 Handicap over 1000m and the horse to beat could be Rodeo Drive.
Rodeo Drive is a talented sort who has not risen to the heights expected this season, but she should have come on from her last run which followed a layoff and can perhaps bounce back here. Chieftain is a talented and improving sort and could get it right here having gone close last time over this trip. Halbardier beat Chieftain by 1.1 lengths last time and is only 0,5kg worse off, although weight for age improvement must be taken into account for Chieftain. Cosmic Star enjoys this course and distance and if able to overcome the worst draw of one by trends then he can be right there. Sheldon is a talented sprinter and he showed signs of a form return last time when actually beating Cosmic Star.
In the first leg of the Pick 6 over 1160m Season’s Greetings improved second time out and has a nice high draw under Gavin Lerena. Wise Counsel ran a fair debut and should improve. Windsor Silk is by Act of War out of a Silvano mare and is a half sister to a three-time winner from 1400m to 1450m in just seven starts. Surreal Song is by Vercingetorix out of a three time-winning Duke Of Marmalade mare from 1250m to 1400m. Master’s Lady has run two fair races and should be in the shake up.
In the sixth race over 1000m, a MR 86 Handicap, Hemisphere is in good form and looks to be the one to beat from a middle draw. Rafa Bay should also be involved in the finish with Gavin Lerena up from  high draw. John Wick is never far off them and has a chance here from a nice high draw. Bourbon Reserve disappointed last time but is better than that run. Nkandla Gold is unreliable but if jumping well and in the mood he has a chance.
In the seventh over 1400m Glamarous Lady is drawn in pole and has the form to go close. Ceuta won well last time and despite a seven point higher merit rating could earn again from a fair draw. Miss Hannigan is in good hard knocking form but does have a tricky draw. Queen Of Love disappointed last time, but is much better than that start and Piere Strydom now rides. Blind Ambition blotted his copybook last time but on his previous form he will be a big runner and looks likely to enjoy the step down to 1400m. 
In the eighth over 1400m Princess Iliara  is in fine hard knocking form and from a pole position draw is the one to beat. Quantum is usually thereabouts but does have a tricky draw to overcome. Godspeed is never far off them and from a fair draw off a lowered merit rating might be in the shake up. Cape Saffron won well in the maidens last time and starts off handicapping on a reasonable 73 merit rating. Boom Boom is in good form and is a contender if producing her best.
In the ninth over 1160m Phala Millions is in fine form and deserves a win, although his low draw could be tricky. Prized Platinum  is never far off them and could earn again.Gimme A Storm is capable of finishing in the money. Tokyo Medaglia should be thereabouts in this field. Ensuing is capable and from a nice high draw under Gavin Lerena and a continually lowering merit rating could bouce back to form.
In the first leg of the Bipot, the second race over 1160m, Jabari Thimba is by Pathfork and is a half-brother to the classy Garrix. Gavius Maximus is by the United States out of a Fastnet Rock mare and he is a half-brother to Champion Warrior, who won both of his first two starts. Detailed Forecast could improve on his debut when backed and not disgraced. The Last Duke could improve on his debut when not disgraced in a good field. Sassy Lassie’s debut race has worked out well and she could improve.
In the first leg of the PA over 1160m Fiery Rose looks hard to beat. The two first-timers could be the dangers. Titan Of The Turf is by William Longsword out of a Judpot mare and Craig Zackey rides and Lannyboy is by Lance and is a half-brother to the useful 101-rated Potberrie.  
In the first race Stone Of Scone has standout form of those to have run. First-timer Sistership is by Rafeef and is a half-sister to the 119 rated Sprinter Rulership.

There was a collective sigh of relief around the gathered crowd in the Hollywoodbets Greyville parade ring when the name of Eight On Eighteen was read out by Graeme Hawkins as being among the 18 runners for the R5 million Hollywoodbets Durban July.

Trainer Justin Snaith was always cagey about whether his star colt would take his place in the line-up given that he would carry top weight for a three-year-old of 57kg the highest since Abashiri lumped 59kg into 13^th place behind The Conglomerate in 2016.

But Snaith and owners Nick Jonsson and Johann Rupert have taken the plunge and Eight On Eighteen will make history should he win and become the first three-year-old in history to win the Gr1 WSB Cape Town Met and the Gr1 Hollywoodbets Durban July in the same year

Eight On Eighteen is also likely to start one of the shortest priced favourites in the 129-year history of the race and his chances were further enhanced when he was drawn 11 in the 18-horse field.

James Crawford has two runners in the race, last year’s winner Oriental Charm who drew pole position and Pomodoro’s Jet who drew 8. It would be an emotional win for James Crawford, who recently took over his father’s string with Brett now plying his trade in Hong Kong.

See It Again races in the same Nick Jonsson silks as Eight On Eighteen and has his third attempt after finishing second to Winchester Mansion two years back and an unlucky fifth last year behind Oriental Charm. He pulled a wide draw of 15.

Stuart Ferrie sends out his first July runner in the hard-knocking Gladatorian. A fast-finishing third behind Dave The King and Oriental Charm in the Gold Challenge, he pulled a wide gate of 16.

Dean Kannemeyer knows what it takes to train a July winner, successful with Dynasty, Eyeofthetiger and Power King and The Real Prince drew gate 5.

Royal Victory will have his supporters but Nathan Kotzen’s charge drew deep at 17. However,  he is a winner of the Gr1 Betway Summer Cup and the Gr1 Champion Challenge at Turffontein and finished third in the July last year behind Oriental Charm. 

Fabian Habib has his first July runner in Confederate. Relatively lightly raced the gelding has won four of his nine starts but has never finishing further back than second. He won the Gr1 SA Classic beating subsequent Gr1 Champions Challenge winner Fire Attack and will be ridden by two-time South African and current New Zealand champion jockey Warren Kennedy who has made the trip to ride in the race.  He drew gate 14.

Mike de Kock has a stellar record in this race and has joined forces with his son Mathew. They have their first July runner together in the three-year-old and recent Gr3 Jubilee Stakes winner Immediate Edge. He carries bottom weight for a three-year-old male of 53kg and has won four of his six starts to date. He drew alongside Eight On Eighteen in gate 10.

Snaith has two other runners in the race, namely Okavango and the one-time winner Native Ruler. Okavango will be ridden by Andrew Fortune and drew 13 while Tristan Godden will have to navigate Native Ruler from gate 18.

 Alec Laird and jockey Calvin Habib pin their hopes on Gr1 Betway Summer Cup winner Atticus Finch who drew favourably in 4.

Andre Nel was first up to do the draw for Selukwe and came out with gate 6. Serino Moodley will be doing the honours on Selukwe.

Alan Greef will fly the colours for the Eastern Cape with his star performer My Best Shot who has a midfield draw of 9.

Local owner Sid Moodley has his first July runner in Madison Valley and he drew gate 2 for his trainer Frank Robinson.

Rainbow Lorikeet is the only filly in the race and Candice Bass Robinson’s runner drew well in 7 and will have Deigo de Gouveia aboard.
