Mike Miller holds a strong hand with three runners on the turf in the Middle Stakes that heads the card at Hollywoodbets Greyville this evening. Best could be the lightly raced Infinity Edge the choice of stable rider Tristan Godden.
She was a beaten favourite last run behind two stable companions but can make amends given expected improvement. She jumped in the ratings from an 86 to 105 after her close-up finish behind Princess Of Gaul in the Gr2 The Debutante. Just ahead of her that day were Elegantrix and Hierarchy. The latter had to play second fiddle to Major Tommie at Hollywoodbets Scottsville last Sunday however, that was her first outing since The Debutante and was just in need of the outing. In contrast, Infinity Edge has had a seasonal pipe-opener and can make amends.
However, stable companion Sovereign Grant was a length in front of Infinity Edge when last they met and is now 2.5kg better of at the weights and has the best of the draw so one is banking on Infinity Edge making the expected improvement given that she is the mount of stable first call rider Tristan Godden.
But the list of possible winners does not stop there with One Smart Cookie always dangerous and improved back in blinkers while Malcolm’s Dream is likely having her last outing before heading to stud but did put in a strong should behind One Smart Cookie last time out.
One of the better bets on the card could come in the ninth and last where Peter Muscutt saddle The Shepherd. The gelding has never been the easiest but is loaded with ability. He has his third run after a lengthy break and was not far back in both starts. He has a big weight but is down in class and looks primed for this. Roch Kedesh did not get the best of passages last run behind Imposing and the outing is possibly best ignored as he had consistent form prior to that run. However, Imposing ran out a comfortable winner if his last start over course and distance and can feature again carrying just 1kg more. The grey Voldemort is seldom far off and although he is up in class he does take a corresponding drop in the weights.
Byron Forester, assistant to Andre Nel, could have hold the key to the opening leg of the Place Accumulator with Miss Twinkle who has improved with each outing and looks ripe for this event. Her biggest threat could come from Ms Galore who showed good speed before being out-paced late over 1200m last time out. This is her third run after a break and the step up in trip should suit.
The Nel stable could make it a double with Spring Kiss in a wide open first leg of the Pick 6.
Spring Kiss seldom runs a bad race and was not far back last run. She is also over her optimum trip. Beautiful Rania has shown recent improvement in blinkers and is down in class while Sally Port was a recent maiden winner but is lightly raced and has improved with each outing. Further improvement can see her home again.
In the fifth, Rani Tarabai has hardly put a foot wrong in her seven starts. The form of her last win has been soundly franked and a repeat should see her close in a competitive field. There should be very little between Radu and Greenhouse with a neck between them when last they met. The meet on the same weight terms while Princess Palace held on gamely to win last time out over 1800m and this shorter trip could be more to her liking.
The sixth is another competitive handicap. Blazing Light has not been far back at recent outings. He is down in class and also takes a slight drop in the ratings. Mohandas was much improved in blinkers last run and this shorter trip should be more to his liking. Slytherin caught the eye last run and he should appreciate the rise in trip while Attaboy has been consistent of late and the step up in trip could finally see him home to his second win.
The runners go some ground in the seventh. Continentalexpress won well over the distance last time out. He was jumping in trip but was well supported in the market, starting favourite. He is up in the handicap but looks capable again. Mark Dixon’s mare Escapologist is something of a Hollywood Scottsville specialist but stays well. However, she meets Continenatlexpress on exactly the same weight terms. Dancing On A Cloud was friendless in the market when just over three lengths back to stable companion Continentlexpress last time out but is now 3kg better off so should finish a little closer. Corrupt is something of an unknown as he goes this trip for the first time but won well enough last time out and is relatively lightly raced so one can expect further improvement.
