David Thiselton

 

The Hollywoodbets Scottsville meeting today has some good horses involved, including former Equus Horse Of The Year Dave The King.

 

The big Global View gelding will be out to win an A Stakes race over 1400m for the third year in succession. He won this race by three lengths and 3,20 lengths respectively in the last two years carrying 62kg and 61,5kg respectively and he should be able to win it again carrying 61,5kg. Callan Murray was up last year and is so again from a similarly wide draw and he will be in the lead or up with the pace before kicking a long way from home, such is this horse’s famously long run in. Aristocratic, a three-year-old who has his third run after a gelding, is capable of a strong finish so might be able to give some cheek if Dave The King is below par. Imposing is capable of turning it on too. Zeitz is consistent and should make the frame. On paper King Pelles is the only one who can challenge Dave The King, but even then he is officially 3kg under sufferance and will find the trip too sharp.

 

The fourth race is interesting as the R4,25 million National Yearling Sale top-priced horse October Rush makes his debut for Dean Kannemeyer under Craig Zackey over 1200m. The two-year-old Rafeef colt has a speedy pedigree and should go close with Pritti United being the main danger, having arrived with some good Cape Town form and Andrew Fortune riding.

 

In the third leg of the Pick 6 over 1750m, Gimme The Truth made a good KZN debut after improving with cheekpieces in his previous two Cape Town starts and he should take a power of beating.

 

In the seventh over 1600m Capsaicin is a long-striding sort who deserves a win and he could make a bold bid off a competitive merit rating. Kanaal Skater showed signs of coming back to form last time and does have some class. The talented The Shepherd finished second to Dave The King at this meeting two years ago and has his third run after a layoff here off a competitive merit rating with Gavin Lerena up.

 

In the eighth over 1600m Taylor’s Version, formerly from Cape Town, can make it three wins at Hollywoodbets Scottsville on the trot.

 

In the last leg of the Pick 6 Tladi Mothwana has caught the eye on a couple of occasions and was outgunned in a Gr 3 last time, so could be hard to beat back in an ordinary race.

 

The best bet could be Scots Wae Hae in the second. He is powerfully built and caught the eye when running third on debut to the promising Kudikaran. He we will be hard to beat in this 1000m contest under Gavin Lerena, although he will hopefully jump better than he did on debut.

2 VIBE CHECK won well in his KZN debut and can repeat the dose. 6 KAZENOYONI won nicely on debut and the form has worked out well. 7 ODE TO THE SEA can earn here if running to his best. 8 SCOTT’S BAR is a first-time by Malmoos and a half-brother to a horse by Hawwaam who won on debut. Race 2

2 SCOTS WAE HAE made a fine debut and with improvement can win this. 1 STRONGER TOGETHER has run two good races and can go close. 3 THUNDER STAR ran well on debut before facing an exceptional horse and being beaten out of the park in a Gr 3 but he could earn. 7 SO INDI made a fair debut and has a chance with improvement. Race 3

15 RAGS TO RICHES made a good debut and has a chance with improvement. 3 WATER HYACINTH has been knocking on the door and has a lot of course experience. 9 COME TOGETHER has run some fair races and could earn. 11 CALIFORNIA DREAMER wasn’t disgraced on debut and with improvement can earn.  (David Thiselton 15-3-9-11)

 

Race 4

11 OCTOBER RUSH was a sales topper and on breeding can go close. 10 PRITTI UNITED has fine form and will be in the shake up. 8 QUICKSMART has run well since arriving from the Cape and has a chance. 2 LIGHT THE FIRE has the form to earn here. (David Thiselton 11-10-8-2)

 

Race 5

6 DAVE THE KING goes for a third win on the trot in this race and his previous two wins were easy. 2 ARISTOCRATIC is on the up and in his third run as a gelding can give cheek. 5 IMPOSING has plenty of class and could earn. 7 ZEITZ also has the class to take a place here. Race 6

2 GIMME THE TRUTH has improved with cheekpieces and can get into the winner’s enclosure this time. 10 GOOD OMEN is knocking on the door and should be right there. 4 FULL MONTY has shown some improvement and can earn again. 6 ANEMIE has shown glimpses of ability and can earn. Race 7

8 CAPSAICIN has a lot of class and should relish this course and distance although he does have a tough draw. 6 KANAAL SKATER has a chance if finding his best form. 7 THE SHEPHERD has his third run after a rest and has the ability to go close. 10 OFFICER IN COMMAND is always capable of popping up. Race 8

4 TAYLOR’S VERSION has won her first two starts at this track well and can make it a hattrick. 9 RED TAFFETY won impressively last time and has a chance of scoring a hattrick too. 2 SILVER SALUTE went close last time after winning her KZN debut and should be right there. 3 PRETTY KARA should not be far off Red Taffety. Race 9

1 FIERY ROSE hs looked promising on the Highveld and has a chance in this line up. 2 TLADI MOTHWANA was outgunned last time in a Gr 3 but should go close back in ordinary company. 4 TULIP FIELDS has a win and a good second in a Gr 3 at this course and should go close. 5 QUERARI ROSE is capable of placing if producing her best. Race 10

5 SUMMER WINTER has the form to be a contender. 4 CALL OF THE KAROO should be in the shake up if producing her best. 13 ARVERNI PRINCESS has fine gatespeed and early speed and has a kick too so has another chance. 1 CELESTIAL DIAMOND was knocking on the before a rest and can get away with it over this trip.
