1^st Scarratoo (Ngwane/Gordon MR70 A 59kg draw 11) This Ashawwes gelding had three moderate starts as a two-year-old. He showed good pace throughout and strode out well but doesn’t have the smoothest of actions and appears to dish outward on both forlegs. 58.95 seconds

2^nd 1,25 Shadrack (Moodley/Lafferty A 59kg draw 10) This unraced Pomodoro gelding was well away and showed good pace and he did it quite easily with a nice action. 59.18 seconds

3^rd 1,50 Game Changer (Jacobson/Crawford A t 60kg draw 6) This four-year-old Twice Over gelding finished a close sixth on debut over 1400m in May having run well in two barrier trials before that. He showed some pace and a nice rangy action. He should do well over further. 59.22 seconds

4^th 4,75 Elegant Eva (De Melo/Kannemeyer a 58kg draw 7) This unraced King’s Chapel filly had one previous barrier trial. She displayed a nice long stride throughout. 59.82 seconds

5^th 11,25 Blushing Bell (Sakayi -2.5 kg/Van Zyl (Jnr) A 58kg draw 5) This is also an unraced King’s Chapel filly who had one previous barrier trial. She showed a fair stride but was green and her momentum was blocked by a slower horse in the straight. She can improve. 61.04 seconds

6^th 11,30 The Master (Marcus/Drier S 59kg draw 4) This unraced Master Of My Fate gelding is well put together and showed some pace and a nice action, but proved in need of the outing. 61.05 seconds

7^th 12,30 I Write The Songs (Jacobs -4 kg/Lafferty A 58kg draw 8) This unraced Noble Tune filly had one previous barrier trial. Reared at the off and thereafter displayed a fair action without being asked to do a lot. 61.25 seconds

8^th 18.05 Talesa (Veale/Gadsby S 58kg draw 3) This unraced Crusade filly was slow away and green throughout, so didn’t give away much.  62.38 seconds

9^th 18,30 Arnulfo (Ramzan -4 kg/Gordon S 59kg draw 1) This unraced Visionaire gelding showed some early pace and a reasonable action but he was green and the penny still has to drop. 62.43 seconds

10^th 22,05 Prize Starter (Pagel/Impey S 58kg draw 2) This unraced Spanish Harlem filly was green and outpaced throughout and will likely need another barrier trial for the penny to drop. 63.2 seconds

11^th 22,10 Hispanic Hoopla (Gates -4 kg/Impey S 58kg draw 9) This unraced Toreador filly has some scope but was slowly away and very green around the turn before making up some ground in the straight. 63.21 seconds

1^st Don Pierro (AUS) (Sakayi -2.5 kg/Rich MR62 A 60kg draw 6) This lightly-raced one-time winner by Pierro was having his first outing since July. He showed some pace and strode out very well throughout although he did swish his tail and ducked out sharply after the line, dislodging the rider. 59.95 seconds

2^nd 1,75 Champagne Gold (Ngwane/Tarry A 58kg draw 3) This unraced Pomodoro filly jumped awkwardly losing some ground but thereafter displayed a good action and quickened well at the end without ever being asked any questions. Another promising member of Pomodoro’s impressive first crop. 60.27 seconds

3^rd  2.75 African Diva (Randolph/Anthony A 58kg draw 1) This unraced Kings Chapel filly was green and had to be pushed along but did finish nicely, albeit in a moderate time. 60.46 seconds

4^th 4,00 Catch The Devil (Wright/Nel S 59kg draw 2) This unraced Querari gelding had run in one previous barrier trial. He showed some pace although he doesn’t have the smoothest action and digs the toe in so is the sort who might enjoy forgiving ground. 60.69 seconds

5^th 6.25 Jet Lignite (Veale/Wright S 59kg draw 7) This Captain Al colt is out of the Listed Stormsvlei Mile winner Maximum Jet. He is well put together and has a fair action. Was doing it easily so has some promise. 61.11 seconds

6^th 9,75 Lady Lumiere (Ferraris -1.5 kg/Bosch A 58kg draw 4) This unraced Twice Over filly was green and a touch outpaced and had to be given a couple of backhanders in the straight. She is out of Grade 3 Jacaranda Handicap (1800m) winner Lady Linney (Linney Head) and will appreciate further. 61.79 seconds

7^th 15,50 Fort Eros (Moodley/Robinson AB 59kg draw 5) This Elusive Fort gelding has run in one previous barrier trial. He was eased down a long way before the line after not responding to a couple of backhanders. Has some scope and a galloping action so will need a lot further. 62.92 seconds

1^st Sir Bernadini (AUS) (B Lerena/Bosch MR91 A 60kg draw 6) In his first outing since June he strode out well under a hold. 58.92 seconds

2^nd 2,25 Fly By Skye (Winnaar/G Kotzen MR71 AB 60kg draw 11) In his first outing since March he pulled his way to the front and strode out well under a hold. 59.33 seconds

3^rd 3,00 Drunken Sailor (Kennedy/Van Zyl (Snr) MR88 A 59kg draw 1) This Irish Flame gelding has won one race, an ordinary Juvenile Plate, back in March and this was his second barrier trial of the season. He showed some pace and a fair action and found another gear when given some rein near the end. 59.46 seconds

4^th 3,15 Romanesca (Jacobs -4 kg/Lafferty MR64 AB 59kg draw 3) This battling maiden showed some pace and strode out well under a hold but it wasn’t the fastest run trial and he gave the impression he would appreciate further. 59.49 seconds

5^th 3,65 Fiorano (Jacobson/Rivalland A 59kg draw 8) This unraced Visionaire gelding was slowly away and green but stayed on well showing a fair action and has scope for improvement. 59.58 seconds

She was not asked to a lot and will improve with time and over further. Her dam by Al Mufti is a full-sister to the great Victory Moon and was placed twice over 1800m. 62.02 seconds

3^rd 6,00 Hartleytwo (Jacobson/B Crawford S 59kg draw 8) This unraced Greys Inn gelding has a fair action and stayed on. Will prefer further on pedigree. 61.13 seconds.

4^th 6,25 Count De Monet (J Gates -4 kg/Wright S 59kg draw 5) This Visionaire colt had a fair early race as a juvenile in January. He has some substance and showed early pace but was not asked to do a lot. 61.18 seconds.

1^st Roy’s Regis (AUS) (Ferraris -2.5 kg/Naidoo MR90 A t 60kg draw 10) This 90 merit-rated two-time winner strode out well in his first outing since finishing seventh in the Umkhomazi Stakes more than a year ago. 59.22 seconds.

2^nd 0,50 Velvet Revolver Arries/Miller A t 59kg draw 7) This unraced Seventh Rock gelding showed some early pace and stayed on without being asked any questions, although he appeared to swivel on the hindlegs. 59.31 seconds.

3^rd 2,00 Epic Sword (Kennedy/Robinson MR63 A 60kg draw 1) He strode out well in his first outing since April. 59.58 seconds.

4^th 3,00 Toronto (Yeni/Howells A 59kg draw 4) This Toreador gelding had one previous trial and one mediocre race. He strode out well with a nice stride and is still immature so has scope for improvement, He will likely appreciate further. 59.77 seconds.

5^th 4,75 Greetings Seattle (Khan/Forbes A 59kg draw 2) This unraced Mambo In Seattle gelding was green on the bend and had to be given a couple of reminders. He is well put together and stayed on with a nice stride. He will likely appreciate further. 60.09 seconds.

6^th 5,50 Secret Dynasty (Marcus/Bosch S 59kg draw 5) This Dynasty colt is out of the three-time Grade 1-winning champion All Is Secret. He has plenty of substance. He was green but did it easily throughout and has a good action. 60.23 seconds.

7^th 5,75 Hit The Gas (Samuel/Denysschen A 58kg draw 3) This Gimmethegreenlight filly had one previous barrier trial. She had quite a high head carriage throughout. 60.28 seconds.

1^st Duke’s Dozen (Khan/B Crawford A 59kg draw 10) This unraced Duke Of Marmalade gelding is a half-brother to the 107 merit rated Quinlan. He stumbled to his knees at the start but recovered well and showed a good turn of foot in the straight. He showed a nice rhythmical action but the time was slow and this trial did not take much winning. 61.34 seconds.

2^nd 0,10 Starr Jameson (Randolph/Rivalland A 59kg draw 9) This unraced Dynasty gelding has substance and plenty of scope. He showed fair pace and displayed a nice action when staying on. 61.36 seconds.

3^rd 0,35 Dexter (Pagel/Naidoo MR54 A 59kg draw 8) This Brave Tin Soldier gelding showed good early pace but in the closing stages had to be driven despite the slow time. 61.41 seconds.

4^th 0.85 I’m Free (De Gouveia/Badenhorst A 58kg draw 11) This unraced Noble Tune filly had one previous barrier trial. She was slow away but then showed some natural speed before staying on with a nice action and without being asked any questions. 61.5 seconds.

3^rd  3,50 Everlasting Love (Samuel/Hill MR74 A 59kg draw 10) Over-raced with her head in the air in her comeback from a two-and-a-half month layoff but then strode out nicely when running on in the straight. 60.01 seconds.

4^th 7,50 Racing Stripes (Dillon/Hill S 59kg draw 4) This unraced Where’s That Tiger gelding has scope and after being driven into a handy position stayed on although he had to be driven in the closing stages and will be looking for further. 60.76 seconds.

5^th 7,60 Redeem The Gold (Ferraris -2.5 kg/Tarry A 58kg draw 8) This Pomodoro filly is out of a maiden Captain Al mare who is a half-sister to a Listed East Cape Fillies Nursery runner up. She displayed a good action and stayed on well from midfield. 60.78 seconds.

1^st Tiger’s Bond (Brown/Bosch 3yog A 59kg draw 8) This unraced Where’s That Tiger gelding was slow away but let himself down nicely in the straight when running on well and has a nice, big action, although the trial time was slow. 61.14 seconds.

2^nd 0,25 Marsanne (Ngwane/Howells 3yof A 58kg draw 3) This unraced Mogok filly is a half-sister to the useful sprinter Wynkelder. She is tall and has plenty of scope. She dwelt, losing a few lengths and was tailed off, but then caught the eye running on with a lovely action. 61.19 seconds.

3^rd 1,75 Great Stohvanen (De Melo/Dixon S 59kg draw 1) This well built unraced Judpot gelding was up with the pace in a slow run trial and found extra when joined in the straight so looks to have resolve. He is big and has plenty of scope and on pedigree should go further than sprints. 61.47 seconds.

4^th 2,00 Chiron (Ferraris -2.5 kg/Naidoo 3yog A 59kg draw 9) This smallish unraced What A Winter gelding showed some pace and stayed on nicely, but it was a slow run race and he will likely need further in time.  61.51 seconds.

5^th  4,50 Makhet (Ntuli/Rivalland 3yof S  58kg draw 5) This unraced Philanthropist filly showed some pace but was green. She has some substance and will appreciate further. 61.99 seconds.

7^th 9,75 Miss Utah (Arries/Wright 3yof A 58kg draw 6) This Seul Amour filly was slow away but then moved to the front. However, she was swamped in the straight before being outpaced and will need to improve. 63.01 seconds.

10^th 23,00 In The Stars (Veale/Drier s 3yof 58kg draw 2)  This unraced Master Of My Fate filly is a half-sister to the useful miler to middle distance filly Without Malice and is well regarded. However, not much can be read into this trial as she dwelt badly and lost about 50 metres 65.75 seconds.

2^nd trial

1^st Wordbuster (Moodley/Puller MR77 AB 59kg draw 7) He was tried with blinkers but this did not help his lack of early pace a lot, although in this slow run trial he was able to get into a handy position on the outside. He then stayed on under the hands until being urged in the finals stages to hold his lead. 60.48 seconds

2^nd 0,10 Belther (Khan/Gordon A 58kg draw 11) 60.5 seconds This unraced Irish Flame filly was having her second barrier trial. She was dropped out from a wide draw and then ran on with quite a nice stride in the straight although she did have quite a high head carriage. Will need further. 60,5 seconds

3^rd 0,60 Trini’s Pomodoro (Pagel/Naidoo A 59kg draw 12) This Pomodoro colt had two fifth places in juvenile events. He has a daisy cutting action and had enough natural speed in the slow run trial to overcome a wide draw and take the lead. He had to be urged a little in the closing stages. 60.59 seconds

4^th 0,85 Lewa Downs (Ngwane/Gordon A 58kg draw 3) This was the second barrier trial for this unraced Marchfield filly. She displayed a good action and stayed on well without letting herself down, giving the impression she had plenty of extra. 60,64 seconds.

5^th 0,95 Tour Of Duty (Jacobs -4 kg/Lafferty MR67 A 60kg draw 2) Put in a fair trial and will have benefitted from it. 60.66 seconds

6^th 1,45 Ruby Slippers (Dillon/Campbell A 58kg draw 9) This unraced Mogok filly was green before being dropped in. She was doing it quite easily behind runners in the straight and showed some acceleration when switched outward. Her National Emblem dam won over 1400m so she should stay further.          60.75 seconds.

7^th 1,70 Carefree (Ferraris -2.5 kg/Bosch A 58kg draw 6) This Marchfield filly had two previous barrier trials and one run. She got into the vanguard without too much effort albeit in a slow run trial and then maintained her position in the hands, although she was given a smack in the closing stages and will prefer further. 60.8 seconds

8^th 4,20 Code Of Values (Wright/Nel MR40 SB 60kg draw 8) Took quite a keen hold throughout and was overtaken late on. 61.26 seconds.

9^th 4,25 Chaychna (Brown/Puller A 59kg draw 10) This was the unraced Lateral gelding’s second barrier trial. He is not tall but has some substance and after being dropped out he stayed on well although he was dishing slightly on his off fore.  He will improve as he goes further. 61.27 seconds

10^th 7,75 Nocera (Randolph/Campbell S 58kg draw 1) This unraced Black Minnaloushe filly is a rangy type but she lacks pace and will need further. 61.94 seconds

11^th 8,00 Simon Bolivar (Veale/Drier S 59kg draw 5) This Silvano gelding is a full-brother to the VDJ runner up Punta Arenas so will improve with age and over further. He showed some early pace and a fair action but dropped back in the straight and doesn’t look as talented as his brother. 61.99 seconds

12^th 14,25 Fight It Out (Jacobson/Van Zyl (Jnr) SB 59kg draw 4) This unraced Duke Of Marmalade finished last in a barrier trial two weeks previously and was tried with blinkers here which improved his early pace but he still did not know what it was all about and was green in the straight while dropping back. 63.23 seconds.

1^st Tiago Real (Dillon/Moore a 59kg draw 11) This unraced Just As Well colt showed some pace and a nice big action and stayed on well under a tight hold, although the time was slow. 61.03 seconds.

2^nd 0,75 Fancifilly (Brown/Goosen MR84 A 59kg draw 2) This big filly took a keen hold out in front in the slow run trial and strode out well in the hands in the straight. 61.17 seconds.

3^rd 1,50 Reconnaissance (Pagel/Goosen A 59kg draw 9) This unraced Visionaire gelding went handy  from  a wide draw without being pressed and showed a nice big action when staying on in the straight, although it was a slow time. Will likely be seen at his best over further. 61.31 seconds.

4^th 3,00 Valeriana (Samuel/Van Zyl (Jnr) A 58kg draw 3) This unraced Var filly showed fair pace in the slow run trial. She has a high knee action and when being held together a couple cruised past her. 61.59 seconds.

6^th 3,05 Just Dixit (Kennedy/Robinson A 59kg draw 8) This unraced Just As Well colt was not too well away but stayed on effortlessly in the straight so this was a good trial 61.6 seconds.

7^th 3,55 Winter Symphony (Arries/Gordon A 58kg draw 10) This What A Winter filly was near the back and stayed on but had to be urged along. 61.7 seconds.

8^th 5,80 Roy’s Flash (Ferraris -2.5 kg/Robinson A 59kg draw 7) This unraced King Of Kings gelding has presence but was very green around the bend and had to be given a couple of backhanders in the straight but was doing nice work late. 62.13 seconds.

12^th 10.05 Kewpie Doll (Wright/Nel S 58kg draw 12) This unraced Philanthropist filly played up and delayed the start and then dwelt losing a couple of lengths. She looks to be a rangy type who will need further but her temperament is a concern. 62.96 seconds.

Barrier trial Greyville 1000m poly 30/07/2018 (1^st trial)

1^st  Calvary (Jacobson/Van Zyl (Jnr) 2yog 57kg draw 4) This Querari gelding had a previous barrier trial before finishing fourth in the Sentinel Stakes over 1000m on debut against winners. He is a well made, classy looking sort and ran a fair time without being put under pressure so looks to have a bright future. 59,93 seconds.

2^nd 0,05 O Sole Mio (Wright/Nel 2yof S 56kg draw 2) This unraced Master Of My Fate filly showed good pace throughout and covers quite a lot of ground in her stride. 59,94 seconds.

3^rd 1,55 Solsbury Hill (Mgudlwa/Wright 2yog S 57kg draw 7) This gelding has substance and showed good pace before staying on  quite well. He has interesting breeding being by the speedster Var out of the Fort Wood mare Mrs Brock, who is a full-sister to the useful Mr Brock, who campaigned successfully in Mauritius and Dubai in middle distance to staying events. However, Solsbury Hill has the build of a sprinter. 60,21 seconds.

4^th 1,60 Hole In One (Ntuli/Drier 2yog S 57kg draw 3) This unraced Master Of My Fate gelding showed some pace and then stayed on quite nicely. 60,22 seconds.

5^th 2,60 Rocket Fire (Ferraris -2.5 kg/Howells 2yoc A 57kg draw 5) This unraced Rock Of Gibraltar colt showed pace but was kept wide and threw his head up a couple of times. However, he stayed on in eyecatching style without being put under any pressure and looks to have ability. 60,41 seconds.

6^th 3,10 Bon Maman (Randolph/Whitehead 2yof A 56kg draw 8). This unraced Duke Of Marmalde filly is strongly built and showed some pace and strode out well. She stayed on in the straight but had to be hard ridden to do so. 60,50 seconds.

7^th 15,60 Master Of Melody (Sakayi -4 kg/Van Zyl (Jnr) 2yog s 57kg draw 9) This unraced Master Of My Fate gelding is still gangly and immature and he was outpaced but has scope for improvement. 62,92 seconds.

8^th 17,85 Hit The Gas (Pagel/Denysschen 2yof A 56kg draw 1) This Gimmethegreenlight filly was slowly away and then raced green with her head in the air before plodding on in the straight. 63,38 seconds.

9^th 18,85 Lovewell (Kennedy/Van Zyl (Jnr) 2yof 56kg draw 10) This Just As Well filly is quite big but was outpaced and looks likely to need a lot further. 63,58 seconds.

10^th 26,60 Presently (Moodley -1.5 kg/Impey 2yog S 57kg draw 6) This Antigua Island gelding was outpaced throughout. 65,22 seconds.

2^nd Trial

1^st Geste (Pagel/Naidoo A MR71 60kg draw 3) Showed natural pace and strode out well without being asked any questions. 60.06 seconds.

2^nd 0,05 Meet The Logans (Ferraris -2.5 kg/Naidoo MR73 A 58kg draw 6) Strode out quite well without being asked to do a lot. 60.07 seconds.

3^rd 0,55 Antigonus (Sakayi -4 kg/Impey S 57kg draw 7) This unraced Crusade colt is gangly and has scope. He was green while being dropped out from a wide draw and showed a nice stride when staying on. He will appreciate further and should pay his way. 60.16 seconds.

4^th 0,70 Winter’s Coming (Wright/Nel MR77 S t 60kg draw 1) Threw his head up for a couple of stride behind the slow pace but thereafter relaxed well and strode out well. 60.19 seconds.

5^th 1,20 Midas Touch (Brown/Anthony A MR42 59kg draw 4) Was slow away and then over raced for a few strides but thereafter strode out well in the hands. 60.28 seconds.

6^th 3,20 Under The Rose (Ngwane/Naidoo MR66 A 59kg draw 5) Strode out well enough but had to be urged to stay in touch in the straight, not surprisingly, as she is a middle distance to staying type.  60.65 seconds.

7^th 15,45 Fight It Out (Jacobson/Van Zyl (Jnr) S 57kg draw 2) This unraced Duke Of Marmalade gelding was slow away and green throughout, the penny still has to drop. 63.03 seconds.
