Barrier Trial Greyville poly 1000m 26/10/2018

1st Beat It (Jacobs -4 kg/Howells  MR83 A 58kg draw 2) This Jackson filly’s previous outing was an eight length eighth in the Grade 1 Thekwini over 1600m for two-year-old fillies. She strode out well throughout and overtook the two in front of her effortlessly.

2nd 1,50 Negma (Jacobson/Crawford MR61 S 59kg draw 3) This Dynasty filly earned six cheques in eight starts in Cape Town but is still a maiden and returned here from a three month layoff. She showed fair pace and strode out well enough and should come on from the outing. 60.04 seconds

3rd 3,50 Amex (Randolph/N Kotzen A 58kg draw 6) This unraced Kildonan filly had one previous barrier trial. She is well put together and has a fair stride and after showing some acceleration from the back in the straight she threw her toe out nicely, but she is still green. 60.37 seconds

4th 3,55 Bonniebrook (Moodley/Naidoo A 59kg draw 7) This unraced Crusade colt had one previous barrier trial. He is tall and has some scope but strikes as one who would need a bit of ground, despite being out of a Silvano mare whose only win was over 1000m on debut and who was kept to sprints.  60.38 seconds

5th 8,55 Taweel (Sakayi -2.5 kg/Tarry A 59kg draw 4) This unraced Silvano gelding had one previous barrier trial. He is not the biggest but is compact and although not striding out terribly well looks to be one who can improve. 61.22 seconds

6th 8,70 Call To Duty (Ngwane/Naidoo A 59kg draw 5) This unraced Pomodoro gelding was slow away and green but has some scope and a fair action and will come on from the outing. 61.24 seconds

7th 10,20 Zilla (Pagel/Denysschen MR63 a 59kg draw 8) This was her return from an eight month layoff and she strode out well under the hands and was making late progress. 61.49 seconds

8th 12,70 Dante’s Gold (Ramzan -4 kg/Lunn A 58kg draw 1) This unraced Judpot filly had finished last in two previous barrier trials and after striding out quite well under the hands she faded without being asked any questions. 61.91 seconds

Barrier Trial Greyville poly 1000m 24/10/2018

1st Procal Harum (Khan/Howells MR104 A t 60kg draw 5) This was his return from a three-and-a-half month layoff and he strode out well under a hold and did it effortlessly albeit in a slow time. 61.19 seconds.

2nd 0.25 Allez Les Bleu (AUS) (Kennedy/Lafferty A 58kg draw 7) This Australian-bred filly is by Denman, a Group 1 winner over 1400m, out of a Lonhro maiden who has produced the five-time winning stable companion to Allez Les Bleu, My Zinzara, as well as an eleven-time winner. She had one previous barrier trial at Greyville on 28/09/2018 and on this occasion was rousted early to go into second place and strode out well from then onward. 61.23 seconds.

3rd 1,75 News Stream (De Melo/Dixon S 59kg draw 2) This unraced Byword filly was green around the turn and had to be pushed along but strode out well throughout. She is not the biggest but has a nice action. 61.48 seconds.

4th 4,50 Ideal Winter (Jacobson/Van Zyl (Jnr) MR82 sB 59kg draw 3) This five-time winning Ideal World mare has won from 1400-2400m and was returning from a four-and-a-half month layoff. She is big and has the rangy action typical of the Ideal Worlds and strode out well throughout. 61.94 seconds.

5th 6,50 Belle Of Paris (Jacobs -4 kg/Puller A  58kg draw 8) This unraced Golden Sword filly has scope and strode out fine. She will need further like most Golden Swords. 62.27 seconds.

6th 6,55 Great Crusade (Brown/Goosen A 59kg draw 1) This unraced Crusade gelding ran in one previous barrier trial on September 30. On this occasion he was green and had to be driven to stay in touch but is gangly so can improve as he matures. 62.28 seconds.

7th 14,55 Extra Mile (Moodley/Hill A  59kg draw 4) This unraced Ashaawes gelding dwelt and lost a few lengths and was then very green. He has scope and quite a big action and was doing some fair work late. 63.62 seconds.

8th 15,05 Red Fuel (Sakayi -2.5 kg/Rich A 59kg draw 9) This unraced Mogok gelding is small and doesn’t have the biggest action either and battled to stay in touch. 63.7 seconds.

9th 18,05 Hartleyseven (Ramzan -4 kg/Dixon S 59kg draw 6) This unraced Eightfold Path gelding dwelt and was green throughout, but is big and scopey and has quite a nice big action. He will come on from this outing. 64.2 seconds.

1st Buffalo Soldier (Zackey/Howells MR78 A t 60kg draw 5) He was returning from a six month layoff and showed pace from the off and strode out well throughout. 58.2 seconds

2nd 1,00 Mokoko (Jacobs -4 kg/Lafferty A 59kg draw 2) This Mogok gelding only cost R10,000. He has some substance and ran on well but doesn’t have the smoothest of actions and wore bandages on both hocks. 58.37 seconds

3rd 3,00 Captain Kangaroo (Kennedy/Lafferty MR68 A 60kg draw 1) He was returning from an eight month layoff and was keen to get going, throwing his head up when being restrained from the off. Thereafter he strode out well although he was dishing on the off fore. 58.7 seconds

4th 3,75 Mighty Mercury (Randolph/Whitehead A t 60kg draw 6) He was returning from a layoff of close to a year and strode out nicely throughout. 58.83 seconds

5th 7,75 I Write The Songs (Moodley/Lafferty A 58kg draw 7) This unraced Noble Tune filly showed some early pace and a fair action and was not asked any questions. 59.49 seconds

6th 12,50 Little Miss Philly (Pagel/Denysschen A 58kg draw 3) This unraced Philanthropist filly is out of the Grade 1-winning Jet Master mare Little Miss Magic, who has produced the promising stakes-placed Trippi filly Miss Katalin and two other winners. She was green and outpaced early but displayed a fair action and can improve. 60.28 seconds

7th 12,75 PayBackTheMoney (Dillon/N Kotzen A 59kg draw 4) This unraced Marchfield colt has plenty of scope and without being asked to do a lot displayed a nice, big rangy action. He is looking for further. 60.33 seconds

Barrier Trial Greyville 1000m poly 19/10/2018

1st Checkpoint Charlie (Moodley/Hill MR83 AB 59kg draw 8) Ran a good second off this merit rating a month ago in a handicap over 1400m on the poly. Showed good pace to overcome a wide draw and then strode out well all the way to the line. 58.3 seconds

2nd 4,50 Zarnitsa (Randolph/Rivalland MR88 A 59kg draw 1) This was her return from an eight month layoff and she showed pace using her short sprinting action. She tired close to home and will come on from the outing. 59.05 seconds

3rd 7,50 Tierra Del Fuego (Ferraris -1.5 kg/Tarry A 59kg draw 7) This unraced colt is one of a handful of progeny of the Jet Master sire Skitt Skizzle who won three ordinary races and placed fourth in the Grade 2 Senor Santa Handicap over 1160m. He was slowly away and detached but came home nicely in the straight without much effort so looks to have some ability. 59.55 seconds

4th 7,75 Pollard (Kennedy/Rivalland A 59kg draw 6) This unraced Visionaire colt has scope and quite a nice big action. Was outpaced but ran on nicely under the hands. 59.59 seconds

5th 9,25 Forevermore (Wright/Nel MR60 S 59kg draw 3) This battling Gimmethegreenlight maiden filly returned from a four month layoff and showed some pace and then when ridden showed some acceleration but the time was slow. 59.84 seconds

6th 11,25 Neria (Bantam -2.5 kg/B Crawford MR63 S 59kg draw 4) This Silvano filly has been relocated to KZN after three places in six maiden starts in Cape Town She showed some early pace and a nice action but was green in the straight and eased out of it. Could do well in a turf maiden in this weaker centre. 60.18 seconds

7th 14,50 Isikheto (Jacobson/B Crawford SB 59kg draw 2) This unraced Visionaire gelding is a racey sort who showed some pace and a fair action but then tired in the straight so will have benefitted from the outing. 60.72 seconds

8th 15,25 Irish Spice (Ngwane/Govender S 58kg draw 5) This unraced Irish Flame filly was outpaced. She will have benefitted from the run and needs further. 60.84 seconds

1st Mr Greenlight (Yeni/Howells A 59kg draw 3) This unraced Gimmethegreenlight colt is well regarded but will need at least 2000m according to the trainer. He moved easily just behind the vanguard from the off and then strode out well in the straight. He was asked the question close to home and showed good acceleration and extended nicely. 59.51 seconds

2nd 0,05 Lady Wisteria (IRE) (Jacobson/B Crawford a t 59kg draw 1) This Sir Prancealot Irish-bred mare finished second in her second start in Cape Town over 1000m in June and had one barrier trial since. She showed pace but over raced around the turn. In the straight she strode out nicely with a big action and has promise if she learns to settle. 59.52 seconds

3rd 2,05 Lady Li Lay (Jacobs -4 kg/Nel MR80 S 59kg draw 12) This three-time winner was last seen in the Track And Ball Oaks where unplaced. She showed good pace from the off and strode out well throughout. 59.88 seconds

4th 6,80 War Trumpet (Wright/Nel MR62 S 60kg draw 6) This What A Winter gelding won his maiden third time out over 1000m at Kenilworth and starting off on a 75 merit rating he has dropped to a 62 after three unplaced runs. He showed some pace but had a high head carriage throughout. He was slightly hampered at the top of the straight but strode out well thereafter. 60.77 seconds

5th 7,55 City Of Mirrors (Sakayi -2.5 kg/Howells A 58kg draw 11) This unraced Toreador filly showed a fair action and stayed on in the straight but had to be pushed along. 60.91 seconds

6th 8,30 Nick The Greek (Ngwane/Goosen A 60kg draw 7) This unraced Sail From Seattle gelding showed a fair action and some acceleration when asked the question. 61.05 seconds

7th 8,35 Blood Orange (Moodley/Hill A 59kg draw 8) This Duke Of Marmalade gelding finished ten lengths back over 1600m on debut after one barrier trial. He displayed a fair action but clearly needs further. 61.06 seconds

8th 8,45 Black Samurai (Randolph/L Crawford MR51 60 kg draw 9) He was returning from an eight month layoff and showed some pace but ran out of steam late. 61.08 seconds

9th 8.95 Nocera (Ferraris -1.5 kg/Campbell A 58kg draw 8) This unraced Black Minnaloushe filly had one previous trial. She was bumped at the off and restrained until last but showed a nice rangy action and did it quite easily so has some ability. 61.18 seconds

10th 9.95 Divine Path (Arries/Miller MR65 A 59kg draw 2) This Eightfold Path gelding did not find a place as a juvenile and returned from a five month layoff. Showed some pace and a quite a big stride to lead but then jumped a path entering the straight. Still immature and can improve but reportedly has soundness issues. 61.37 seconds

11th 12,95 My Path (Veale/Drier S 59kg draw 5) This unraced Pathfork gelding required two handlers in the parade ring. He has a fair stride but was green throughout and had to be pushed along. 61.96 seconds

12th 18,70 Notquitethereyet (Pagel/Howells A 58kg draw 4) This unraced The Apache filly dwelt and lost a few lengths and was then green and outpaced. The penny still has to drop. 63.11 seconds

1st My Majestic Glory (AUS) (Kennedy/Lafferty MR86 A 60kg draw 3) Returned from a layoff of four months and over raced early so did well to stride out well to the line. 59.13 seconds

2nd 0,50 Hack Green (Veale/Drier MR98 SB 60kg draw 10) Returned from a five month layoff and strode out quite well. He will come on from this outing.  59.22 seconds

3rd 4,00 Coldhardcash (Yeni/Howells A 59kg draw 8) This unraced What A Winter colt has some substance and is well regarded. He showed some pace and stayed on well considering he was up against a useful pair of older speedsters. 59.86 seconds

4th 5,75 It’s My Turn (De Melo/Kannemeyer MR108 a 60kg draw 1) The Equus Champion Stayer was appearing for the first time since his Gold Cup victory and looked well and strode out well. 60.18 seconds

5th 6,50 Noble Beat (Ngwane/Howells A 59kg draw 7) This unraced Noble Tune gelding was having his second barrier trial and raced a bit strongly but then stayed on well with a nice action so if learning to settle could have promise. 60.33 seconds

6th 6,55 Duke’s Dozen (B Lerena/B Crawford A 59kg draw 12) This Duke Of Marmalade gelding had run in one previous trial and had one disappointing race. He showed good pace to go to the front from the widest draw. He tired in the final stages but is immature and can improve. 60.33 seconds

7th 8,05 Final Attempt (Bantam -2.5 kg/G S Kotzen A 59kg draw 5) This unraced Byword gelding dwelt and was green and then had to be switched in the straight. He is an athletic sort and he showed some acceleration and a fair action. 60.62 seconds

8th 8,55 Waiting For Change (Moodley/Hill S 58kg draw 11) This unraced Await The Dawn filly had one previous barrier trial. She is not the biggest and has a rangy action so will appreciate further. Showed some early pace but was unable to go with them as they turned for home. 60.71 seconds

9th 10,30 Dash Valley (Pagel/G S Kotzen A 59kg draw 6) This Marchfield colt has had two poor races. He was outpaced and a touch one paced in the straight.  61.05 seconds

10th 17,05 Light Lake (Sakayi -2.5 kg/G S Kotzen A 58kg draw 4) This unraced Elusive Fort filly was green and outpaced and was soon out of the picture. 62.37 seconds

11th 17,20 Calling Lily (Gates -4 kg/G S Kotzen S 58kg draw 2) This unraced Announce filly was green and outpaced throughout. 62.4 seconds

12th 19,45 Home Ruler (Ferraris -1.5 kg/Drier S 58kg draw 9) This unraced Pathfork filly was slow away and green and outpaced throughout. 62.86 seconds

Barrier trial Greyville poly 1000m 07/10/2018 

1st Can You Feel It (Kennedy/Van Zyl (Jnr) MR98 A 58kg draw 9) This classy daughter of Jackson finished third in both the Grade 2 Golden Slipper over 1400m and the Grade 1 Thekwini over 1600m. In her reappearance here she showed pace and strode out well throughout under a hold. 60.03 seconds

2nd 2,00 Monte Christo (Marcus/Crawford MR86 S 60kg draw 6) This six-year-old Trippi gelding won well over 1200m at Scottsville in August. He showed pace and strode out well without being asked any questions. 60.4 seconds

3rd 3,75 Hashtaggthemost (Bantam -2.5 kg/B Crawford S 59kg draw 8) This unraced Count Dubois filly is quite small but compact. She showed pace and stayed on with a rounded action. 60.72 seconds

4th 5,75 Red Shift (Wright/Nel MR67 S 60kg draw 5) This four-year-old Silvano gelding won his maiden over 1400m at Kenilworth in his sixth career start in August. He strode out well and displayed a nice action so off a reasonable merit rating could be one to look out for in his first handicap. 61.1 seconds

5th 5,85 Philae (Arries/Nel MR76 S 59kg draw 7) This five-year-old Silvano mare had some fair form in Cape Town although her last run at Durbanville over 1400m in August was her career worst performance. She strode out well throughout and has a fair action. 61.12 seconds

6th 5,90 Selailai (Jacobs -4 kg/Nel MR72 S 60kg draw 4) This Toreador gelding won his maiden second time out over 1200m at Kenilworth and ran a fair race over 1250m first time out the maidens but disappointed in two subsequent starts over 1600m. He was slowly away but then ran on well from last with a nice action and is one to look out for in a handicap from 1200m to 1400m. 61.13 seconds

7th 7,15 Prosecco (Ngwane/Gordon MR79 A 59kg draw 3) This Var filly won her maiden second time out over 1200m but ran poorly in two subsequent handicaps and the jockey felt something amiss in the last of them although nothing was detected. She returned here from a seven month layoff. She over raced in behind horses before moving up and then finding no extra. 61.37 seconds

8th 8,65 Mighty Mercury (Randolph/Whitehead MR74 At 60kg draw 1) This Pathfork gelding won his maiden over 1000m on the Greyville turf in his eighth career start but was unplaced in all three subsequent handicap starts and returned here from an eight month layoff. His action suggests he would prefer further but he has been kept to sprints and this could be due to his breathing issues. 61.66 seconds

9th 12,15 Sweet Preserve (X Jacobs -4 kg/Van Zyl (Jnr) MR77 AB 58kg draw 2) This Duke Of Marmalade filly was knocking hard from 1500-1600m as a juvenile maiden and returned here from a four month layoff with second-time blinkers. She strode out well enough without being asked any questions. 62.34 seconds

10th 12,40 South Paw (Moodley/Van Wyk MR59 A 60kg draw 10) Returned from an eleven month layoff and clearly needed it. Strode out quite well but was just held together. 62.39 seconds

11th 12,65 Golden Halo (Gates -4 kg/Puller A 59kg draw 11) This unraced Miesque’s Approval gelding showed some pace but the penny still has to drop and he dropped back in the straight. 62.44 seconds

1st Moon In June (Samuel/Hill A 58kg draw 7) This unraced filly is a typically scopey daughter of Twice Over and had done nicely in a previous barrier trial on August 26. She jumped to the right and was bumped leaving her in last place. She was green in the straight and hanging as she wanted to run in behind horses. However, when she finally had enough daylight in front of her she quickened nicely. She displayed a nice action and will appreciate further. 60.54 seconds

2nd 0,10 Elusive Run (Jacobs -4 kg/Nel MR64 S 59kg draw 3) Showed some pace and strode out well in her first outing since finishing last in a 1900m handicap at Kenilworth in June. 60.56 seconds

3rd 0,20 Noble Joshua (Sakayi -2.5 kg/Van Zyl (Jnr) s 59kg draw 5) This Noble Tune gelding was unplaced in a Juvenile Plate and a Maiden Plate over 1200m and 1600m in June and July respectively. He jumped awkwardly and was green but he has some substance and displays a fair action so should improve as he matures. 60.58 seconds

4th 0,25 Paths Of Victory (Kennedy/Van Zyl (Jnr) MR84 sB 59kg draw 1) This Noble Tune gelding won at the fourth attempt over 1900m but looks to have been given quite a harsh merit rating. He was up with the pace throughout but his action shows him to be one who would prefer a lot further. 60.59 seconds

5th 0,30 Little Miss Me (GB) (Bantam -2.5 kg/B Crawford MR68 S 59kg draw 8) She strode out quite well in her first outing in KZN. 60.6 seconds

6th 0,35 Hello Summer (Moodley/Nel MR66 S 59kg draw 4) This was the Querari filly’s first outing since winning her maiden over 1800m at Durbanville in August. She strode out well and stayed on well over a trip too sharp. 60.6 seconds

7th 2,35 L’ Histoire (Wright/Nel MR63 S 60kg draw 6) This well put together Querari gelding was having his first outing since disappointing at Kenilworth in March. He showed some pace and a nice action while just being held together and is one to look out for in a KZN maiden over 1400m or more. 60.98 seconds

8th 4,35 Isikheto (Dillon/B Crawford S 59kg draw 2) This unraced Visionaire gelding displayed a fair action but was green throughout and the penny still has to drop. 61.35 seconds

1st Unbelievable Chad 6 b g (J Jacobs – Lafferty) kicked on nicely from behind off a slow gallop. Looks ready to race. 62.51 secs.

2nd Iron Born 3 ch g (Kennedy – Gareth van Zyl) pace throughout and allowed to run along in the hands. Finished off well. 2.00 62.89 secs.

3rd Victorious Man 3 b c (Zackey – Lafferty) back early but kicked on smartly in the run to the line. Smart trial. 2.25 62.94 secs.

4th Magical Java 3 ch f (Veale – Drier) showed pace but was kept hard to her task all the way to the line. 2.75 63.04 secs.

5th Sauvage 3 b g (Moodley – Lafferty) ran on one-paced throughout. Stayed on nicely at the end but looks like he needs ground. 3.50 63.18 secs.

6th Southern Dynasty 3 b f (Ferraris – Naidoo) ran a similar trial to Sauvage. Finished off his gallop nicely. 5.00 63.48 secs.

7th Miss Xun 3 b f (Randolph – Rivalland) showed early toe but was out-paced in the run to the line although not asked to much. May prefer much further. 9.25 64.32 secs.

8th Mistral Rider 3 b g (Ngwane – Howells) jumped out sideways hampering Great Crusade. Showed a smooth action and just allowed to bowl along. Looks capable of good improvement. 12.25 64.93 secs.

9th Kitty Chan 3 b f (Samuel – Drier) showed early but was ridden out in the straight. Not persevered with and went steadily backwards. 13.25 65.14 secs.

10th Great Crusade 3 b g (Brown – Goosen) badly hampered at the start losing many lengths. Pushed along in the straight but made little impression. 13.75 65.24 secs.

11th Irish Spice 3 b f (Sakayi – Govender) never in it. Asked for an effort in the straight but never quickened. Still very green. 38.00 70.7 secs.

2nd Tripple Explosion 5 b g (Moodley – N Kotzen) showed pace. Green. Ran on. 0.50 58.82 secs.

3rd Master Keys 3 b f (Randolph – N Kotzen) very green on the turn. Picked up nicely in the straight. 2.00 59.09 secs.

4th Allez Les Bleu 3 b f (J Jacobs – Lafferty) not asked for much but running on nicely at the end. Looks like she may need ground. 6.75 59.96 secs.

5th Mr Vengeance 3 b g (Gates – Wright) very green and ridden at from the jump. 11.25 60.82 secs.

6th Pure Valor 7 b g (Pagel – Denysschen) given an easy re-introduction. Solid piece of work but will need much further. 23.75 63.31 secs

7th Sebalicious 3 b c (Samuel – Lunn) jumped sideways. Very green with head up in the air. Made little impression in the straight. 23.75 63.31 secs.
