Today’s Turffontein race meeting, which is headed by the Joburg Spring Challenge and the equivalent race for fillies and mares, has been postponed until tomorrow because of rain.

Nearly 38mm of rain had fallen at Turffontein in the 36 hours to 07:00 today, when a track inspection confirmed that the going on the Inside track was already soft.

With rain falling at the time and more rain forecast throughout today, it was decided to move the meeting to tomorrow, when current weather forecasts are for sunny skies.

Following a course inspection as well as a penetrometer reading (varying between 25 and 45) it has

been unanimously decided to move tomorrow’s meeting scheduled for turf to the Polytrack. We have

received over 35mm of rain and more is forecast for later today and early tomorrow morning, thus

the early decision to move the meeting, as it is deemed unsafe for both horse and rider.

Please note that all distances remain unchanged, and Race 1 will no longer be a Workriders race as the

horses will be ridden by Professional Jockeys.
