Barrier Trial Scottsville turf 1000m 19/09/2018 First Trial

1st  Opensea 3 b c (Kennedey – Gavin van Zyl) solid scopey colt. Looks very close to making his debut. Showed pace throughtout and stayed on well. 58.45 secs.

2nd Maa Nonu 3 b g (Samuel – Forbes) well-muscled solidly built gelding. Showed good pace and stayed on nicely. 0.10 58.47 secs.

3rd Frankie Two Shoes  3 b g (Moodley – Bardenhorst) balanced colt who looked nervous in the preliminaries. Was slow out and very green, pushed all the way to the line. 3.35 50.05 secs.

4th Riverboat Belle – nicely balanced filly but a little on the small side. Showed pace and was kept to her task. Looks as though she will need ground. 9.10 60.12 secs.

5th Hand On Heart 3 b c (Ramzan – Roberts) galloped very green. Punched out to the line. Looks like he will need much further. 9.60 60.21 secs.

6th Seek Moon Magic 3 b f (Brown – Goosen) solid, scopey filly. Looked under-done. Green, tucked in and didn’t show much. 10.60 60.4 secs.

7th Fortune Doro 3 b f (Ferraris – Tarry) neat filly but on the small side.  Raced without cover and allowed to bowl. Faded the last bit. 10.70 60.42 secs.

8th Sand Queen 3 b f (De Melo – Dixon) raced wide of the pack. Ridden at and green.  11.45 60.56 secs.

9th Circle In The Sand 3 b f (Zackey – Howells) light-framed. Ear-muffs. Slow out and galloped very green. Likely to need further and more experience. 11.55 60.58 secs.

10th Trini’s Greenlight 3 b f (Sakayi – Naidoo) leggy filly that needed a lead pony to the start.  Jumped badly and was ridden out to no great effect. 12.55 60.77 secs.

11th Whiasperinthewind 3 b f (X Jacobs – Gareth van Zyl) tall, light-framed leggy filly. Took a big knock out of the gate and never really got going. 14.30 61.11 secs.

12th Mr Rabe 4 b c (Randolph – Anthony) solid well-muscled colt. Looked fit but was very green and ridden at throughout. 14.50 61.15 secs

13th Disney Princess 3 ch f (Hewitson – Tarry) nicely put together, well balanced filly. Smart educational run in spite of finishing one from last. Asked to pick it up late after hunting for cover in the early exchanges. 15.10 61.27 secs.

14th Emperors Rule 3 b g (Dean – Glen Kotzen) big, leggy gelding. Was slow to begin and very green. Handy before fading. 15.15 61.28 secs.

Second Trial

1st Hashtagyolo 4 b f (De Melo – Kannemeyer) showed no signs of her recent illness. Looked a picture in the paddock. Jumped badly but did just enough to stay ahead of the pace. Smart work. 58.04 secs.

2nd Blue Winter – 4 ch f (Pagel – Humby) showed good pace throughout. Kept to her task and should come on from this effort. 0.75 58.17 secs

3rd Kingston Boy 9 b g (Randolph – Campbell) stumbled out of the gate but went through with his work nicely. 0.90 58.2 secs.

4th Miss Calypso 3 b f (Ferraris – Gavin van Zyl) showed pace throughout and kept on nicely.  1.90 58.38 secs.

5th Unbelievable Chad 6 b g (B Lerena – Lafferty) steady pace work. Went through with it nicely and looks ready for further. 3.15 58.6 secs.

6th Suzi Woo 4 ch f (Samuel – Humby) was kept covered in the early exchanges. Once clear of traffic was just punched out. Good educational effort. 4.15 58.78 secs.

7th Elsa Of Arendelle 4 b f (Dillon – Humby) 4.40 58.83 secs.

8th One Moment In Time 4 b g (J Jacobs – Lafferty) big gelding. Races in blinkers. Was ridden along and will need further. 4.45 58.84 secs.

9th Oratorina 3 b f (Kennedy – Gavin van Zyl) jumped sideways. Was one-paced throughout. Didn’t show much. 4.50 58.85 secs.

10th Roy’s Hollyhock 5 ch m (Sakayi – Naidoo) jumped badly. Running around. Looks difficult. 9.25 59.72 secs.

11th Jack Of Hearts 3 b c (Moodley – Puller) was never in the gallop. Sure to need much further. 9.75 59.82 secs.

12th Om Jay 3 b g (Jacobson – Rich) showed early. Green before fading out. 10.25 59.91 secs.

Barrier trial analysis Scottsville 1000m poly 05/09/2018

1st Run Rhino Run 7 b g (Moodley – Robinson) looked well enough in the paddock but again difficult to restrain in his trial and led all the way. 58.09 secs.

2nd Via Salaria 3 b c (Veale – Drier) on the leg and quite lightly framed. Galloped green but ran on smartly. 2.50  58.54 secs

3rd Om Jay 3 b g (Jacobson – Rich) winter coat and on the small side. Ear-muffs on. Showed early pace be fore tiring late. 4.25 58.85 secs.

4th Silent Obsession 5 b g (X Jacobs – Howells) 0nly has one eye. Looked well enough in the paddock and had a good blow-out over a distance well sort of his best. 5.75 59.13 secs.

5th Tristful 3 b c (B. Lerena – Rivalland) nice horse with scope but looked under-done. Ran on nicely in a promising trial. 5.80 59.14 secs.

6th Friend Zone (Sakayi – Dittmer) on the small side and sporting a winter coat. Green. Ridden out the last two furlongs.7.80 59.5 secs.

7th Netanya 3 b f (Randolph – Whitehead) nice filly with lots of scope. Will probably need ground. Green. Ran on nicely when pushed out.  8.05 59.55 secs.

8th Power Pitch 3 b f (Samuel – Whitehead) not big and carrying plenty of conditions. Difficult at the gate and loaded with a hood. Ridden to the line. 10.55 60.02 secs.

9th Pilot Route 4 b g (Gates – Wright) mature scopey gelding. Will probably need much further. Green and ridden out the last 400m. 13.55  60.59 secs.

10th Manolete 3 b c (Ferraris – Drier) nice colt with scope but coltish in the paddock. Very slow to begin. Just went through the motions. 19.30 61.72 secs.

11th Kitty Chan 3 b f  (Ntuli – Drier) nice filly with scope. Not asked for much of an effort. 19.40 61.74 secs.

2nd Barrier Trial.

1st Pickawinner 3 b g (Yeni – Howells) good pace throughout but geared down the last furlong or so. 58.98 secs.

2nd Twice Over Satin 3 ch f (Randolph – Whitehead) nice filly but galloped green. Ran on nicely. 0.25 59.02secs.

3rd Unilateral 3 b f (Pagel – Goosen) galloped green. Showed early and ridden out to the line. 0.30 59.03 secs.

4th Glitterock  4 b c ran on nicely from just off them. (Ngwane – Robinson 3.30 59.58 secs.

5th Land Of Mystery 3 b c (Veale – Drier) nice scope colt. Slow to begin and galloped green. Ran on nicely. Useful trial. 3.80 59.67 secs.

6th Bint El Malak 3 ch f (Moodley – Lafferty) nicely put together and balanced filly. Handy and stayed on nicely in a promising trial. 4.55 59.81 secs.

7th Dallas 3 ch g (Ramzan – Roberts) stocky gelding. Galloped green and not asked to show much as he went steadily backwards. 6.30 60.13 secs.

8th Kewpie Doll 3 b f (Gates – Nel) lightly framed filly. One-paced throughout. 7.30 60.31 secs.

9th Thrace 3 ch c (Samuel – Dittmer) laid back colt. Slow and green. Showed early but very backward. 7.80 60.42 secs.

10th Bud The Spud 3 b g (Arries – Rivalland) solidly built gelding. Handy early but only went through the motions. 10.80 60.99 secs.

11th Magical Java 3 ch f (Ntuli – Drier) bit hot in the preliminaries. Galloped green and not asked to show much.13.80 61.57 secs.

Barrier trial analysis Scottsville 1000m turf 22/08/2018 

1st Doing It For Dan 5 b g (Pagel – Goosen) – showed good pace from the jump and was pressed hard all the way to the line. 50 secs

2nd Mutawaary  (Ngwane – Bosch) – matched strides with Doing It For Dan and went to the line well. Smart trial for a horse that has shown his best over further. – 0.75 58.13 secs

3rd Clouds Of Witness 3 b g (Jacobson – Rich) – nicely put together son on Master Of My Fate. Missed the break but showed fair pace and stayed on well. Still has to mature and will need more ground. Promising trial. – 4.25 58.76secs

4th Sonar Active b g (Arries – Miller) – made to work all the way to the line. – 5.75 59.03 secs

5th Drunken Sailor b g (Zackey – Gavin van Zyl) – ridden out to the line. – 5.85 59.05 secs

6th Perfect Peter    (Kennedy – Gavin van Zyl) – always travelling well under the hands and not asked for an effort. Should come on lengths from this. – 7.60 59.38 secs

7th Magic Flame    (Gates – Miller) – pushed out hands and heels in the later stages but struggled to quicken. 8.10 59.47 secs

8th Ella’s World    (Ferraris – Bosch) – travelled well throughout but not asked to do much except run through to the line. – 8.35 59.51 secs

9th Black Mariner   (Moodley – Robinson) – travelled well throughout but not asked to do much except run through to the line. – 8.60 59.56 secs

10th Diamnate    (Lerena – Dixon) – showed early but then given an easy run down to the wire. Not asked to show much. – 8.65 59.57 secs

11th Salacia  (Sakayi – Eudey) –  very green and hanging in badly. – 11.40 60.09 secs.

Barrier Trial analysis Scottsville 19/08/2018

1st JACQUELINE – 3 b f (De Melo – Drier) – Light framed filly. Very green and niggled at throughout. Rattled on from mid-field and finished off her trial well. 58.9 secs

2nd WENDYLLE –  3 gr g (Sakayi – Goosen) – eye-catching grey. Restless in the ring and carrying some condition. Showed good pace before being geared down the last furlong. (0.50) 58.99 secs

3rd SAIL SMARTLY – 3 b g (Ngwane – Gordon) – nice colt but carrying plenty of condition. Showed pace throughout and was staying on nicely without being asked for too much. (0.75) 59.03 secs

4th LIVE AS ONE – 3 b f (Ferraris – Tarry) – strapping solid filly with plenty of scope. Showed pace throughout but not asked for anything more than to work through under the hands. Smart trial and one to keep an eye on. (2.25) 59.31 secs

5th SONG OF THE FOREST-  3 b f (Brown – Goosen) – nicely balanced filly with plenty of scope. Wearing ear-muffs. Always handy and was staying on nicely towards the end without any urging. (2.75) 59.4 secs

6th MARCHETTO – 3 B C (Kennedy – Gareth van Zyl) – nice colt big-actioned colt. Carrying condition. Was way back early but picked it up nicely towards the death. This was nice work. (3.50) 59.54 secs

7th SHOCK VICTORY –  3 b f (Yeni – Howells) –  nicely topped, leggy filly. Showed pace but was very green and Yeni was at her most of the way. Still needs the penny to drop. (4.00) 59.63 secs

8th GALWAY- 3 b g (Ntuli – Rivalland) – big scopey colt. Carrying plenty of condition and way above himself in the paddock. Showed early but ran out of steam the last furlong. (6.00) 60 secs

9th JUST NATS – 2 ch f (Arries – Roberts) – On the small side but carrying plenty of condition. Showed some pace before being eased two furlongs out and canter home. (9.25) 60.61 secs

10th STUNNING GUEST – 3 b g (Dillon – Campbell) – Nice big gelding but raced very green and will need to improve lengths on this showing. (9.35) 60.63 secs

11th CATCH THE DEVIL – 3 b g (Wright – Nel) – Nice big gelding with scope. Green and not asked to do much. May need some time to come to hand. (9.85) 60.72 secs

12th STRAWBERRYPOPTART  – 3 b f (Zackey – Bosch) – light-framed filly. Has some growing to do. Showed some pace but was green and faded out. (10.85) 60.91

First Trial

1st Celebration Rock (De Melo/Lafferty 2 b c Draw 6 57kg) – nice racy colt. On his toes in the preliminaries and showed good pace throughout before being geared down. Smart trial. 58.56 secs

2nd Double Delux (Veale/Drier 2 ch c Draw 8 57kg) – needs to furnish and galloped very green. Punched out to the line and was running on nicely. 58.69 secs

3rd Opera Cat (Ngwane/Gadsby 2 ch g Darw 4 57kg) – needs to furnish. Was thereabouts all the way but not asked for any effort. Should come on from this showing. 60.07 secs

4th Noble Beat (Arries/Howells 2 b g Draw 9 57kg) – solid close-coupled individual. Carrying plenty of condition. Went smoothly to the line without being asked. 60.10 secs

5th Paddington’s Luck (Godden/Drier 2 b g Draw 3 57kg) – Nicely put together, solid looking gelding. Bred to stay much further. Held together all the way to the line. 60.29 secs

6th Six Degrees – (Fourie/G. Kotzen 2 b c Draw 1 57kg) – still has some growing to do. Looks like a horse that will stay a bit of ground. 60.63 secs

7th Aiden’s Bugatti (Samuel/Rich 2 ch f Deaw 7 56kg) – nice robust filly with a good action. Not asked for much but showed early pace and will benefit from this trial. Will probably need further.60.48 secs

8th Al Jackman (Randolph/Whitehead 2 b c Draw 5 57kg) – big scopey colt who towered above his rivals in what was a smart looking field. Jumped slow and very green. Could take time to come to hand. 62.44 secs

9th Shimmering Path (Sakayi/Howells 2 b c Draw 2 57kg) – leggy and needs to furnish. Very green and showed little and finished tailed off. 62.44 secs

Second Trial

1st Double ‘O’ Eight (Anthony/Arries 3 b f Draw 9 58kg) – good pace throughout but raced green and has her head turned sideways for much of the gallop. 58,40secs

2nd Khetiwe (Jacobs/Lafferty 5 b m Draw 8 55kg) – showed pace throughout and stayed on. 58.71 secs

3rd Leandra (Gates/Gadsby 3 b f Draw 7 54kg) – up tight filly that was lead around by the horse whisperer. Also galloped in earmuffs. Showed pace before being geared down.58.8 secs

4th Stunning Seed (Wright/Humby 4 b f Draw 4 59kg) – always up there but not asked for much. 58.82 secs

5th Brighteyedbushytail (Ferraris/Howells 3 b g Draw 5 55kg) – nice smooth action. Not asked to do much but went through his work nicely. 58.84 secs

6th Double Gemin (Dillon/Humby 3 ch g Draw 1 59kg) – green but ran on nicely. Caught the eye and likely to come on lengths from this second trial. 58.85 secs

7th Picante (Randolph/Whitehead 3 ch f Draw 10 58kg) – still green. Not asked for much and through the hands to the line.59.53 secs

8th Aerostar (Moodley/Anthony 4 ch f Draw 2 59kg) – showed very little. Not asked for much. 59.63 secs

9th Twirl (Mohapi/N Kotzen 3 ch f Draw 3 58kg) made little impression. – 59.95 secs

10th Live Rust (Samuel/Whitehead 3 ch g Draw 6 59kg) – four white socks. On the leg and needs to furnish. Never in the gallop. Needs major improvement. 60.52 secs

Barrier trial Scottsville 1000m 16/05/2018 penetrometer 27

1st Legislate (Fourie/Snaith 7yoh MR117 A 60kg draw 3) The champ put in a sterling comeback gallop after being found to have fertility problems at stud. 59.49 seconds

2nd 1,75 Pinot Gris (Ferraris -4 kg/G H Van Zyl 2yoc A 57kg draw 6) This small Silvano colt was having his second barrier trial and displayed a good action. He has some natural pace as he was not asked to do a lot. 59.81 seconds

3rd 3,75 Generous Lady (Moodley -1.5 kg/Lafferty 2yof A 56kg draw 4) This unraced Philanthropist filly has some substance and did it easily throughout. 60.18 seconds

4th 9,25 Cruising Speed (Sakayi -4 kg/G H Van Zyl 2yoc A 57kg draw 5) This Pomodoro colt was having his second barrier trial and was still green. He threw his head up at the start and then had to be pushed along and given a back-hander. 61.22 seconds

5th 9,30 Solicitor General (Godden/Dittmer 2yoc A 57kg draw 2) This unraced Brave Tin Soldier colt fly-jumped and then showed some early pace but was unable to keep up with the leaders in the testing conditions despite being urged along. 61.23 seconds

6th 9,35 Don’t Look Back (Wrogemann/G H Van Zyl 2yoc A 57kg draw 1) This two-year-old Judpot colt was having his second barrier trial. He has some substance and showed fair cruising speed but tired in the closing stages in the testing conditions. 61.24 seconds

7th 9,45 Bangkok (Kennedy/G H Van Zyl 2yog AB 57kg draw 8) This two-year-old Judpot gelding was well beaten in a race against winners having earlier done quite well in an 800m barrier trial. He was soon wilting in the testing conditions but does have scope for improvement. 61.25 seconds

8th 14,70 Cruise Cruz (Veale/G H Van Zyl  2yoc S 57kg draw 7) This two-year-old Bold Silvano colt has some scope and substance and a fair action but was soon wilting in the testing conditions. Can improve. 62.28 seconds

Barrier Trial Scottsville 1000m 15/04/2018 – Going heavy

1st Perfect Peter (Gavin van Zyl – Warren Kennedy 2 yoc 57kg draw 6) Neat colt. Smart trial after showing up well in his debut effort. Punched out to the line. 60.3secs.

2nd Incerroche (C Murray/Dixon 2 f 56kg draw 13) physically a bit immature but won well on debut and was running on smartly in the heavy going without being asked too much. 60.4secs.

3rd Rock Spirit (R Fourie/G Kotzen 2yoc 57kg draw 2) leggy colt and looks a bit hot. Showed pace and was staying on in the heavy going. 60.49secs

4th Alsflamingbeauty (G Van Niekerk/Snaith 2yof 56 draw 1) smart racy looking filly. Went down to the start with a lead pony. Held together all the way and went to the line in good fashion. One for the notebook. 60.5 secs.

5th Chapel Cleeve (T Godden/Puller 3yog 59kg  draw 7) On his toes in the oaddock. Showed early and stayed on. 60.97secs.

6th Gooi A Las (L Hewitson/Lafferty 2yof 56kg draw 6) neat and athletic but looked a bit backward in the paddock. 60.94secs.

7th Dyno Man (G Wright/Puller 3yog 59kg draw 4) nicely put together gelding. Missed the break and tired late. 60.98secs.

8th Clarehaven (A Arries/Roberts  2yof 56kg draw 8) carried plenty of condition. Showed pace but geared down to the line. Can make big improvement. 61.08secs.

9th Iron Born (B Jacobson/Gareth van Zyl) 2yoc 57kg draw 8) big nicely put together son of Silvano. Showed pace but not asked to do much. 61.46secs.

10th Elusive Master (L Pagel/G Kotzen) 2yoc 57kg draw 14) smart dark bay with plenty of scope. Raced green but not asked to do much. 61.84secs.

11th Waiting For Change (D De Gouveia/Hill 2yof 56kg draw 10) looks immature with plenty of growing to do. 61.85secs.

12th Simon Bolivar (S Veal/Drier 2yoc 57kg draw 9) Good actioned colt but very coltish in the paddock. Probably needs gelding. 62.43secs.

13th Dancing Moonlight (D Lembethe/Naidoo 2yoc 57kg draw 12) carried plenty of condition. Still has some growing to do. 62.45secs.

14th Wildly In Love (A Marcus/Howells) 2yof 56kg draw 13) smart filly. Showed early pace before hitting a patch and not perservered with. Sure to make big improvement. 62.45secs.

15th  Nog ‘N Piep (E Ngwane/Bestel 3yof 58kg draw 15) nice filly but carried plenty of condition. 65.47secs.
