Vaal Thursday Tips and Race Previews by David Thiselton

Race 1
Preview: ORCHID EXPRESS (13) ran on strongly in the closing stages on debut over this trip and with improvement and a better start she should be in the shake up. MADAME PATRICE (5) has speed and has been run out of it late over this trip in her last three starts, finishing second all three times. SAMOA (3) ran on last time in her second career start following a layoff of over a year and she should come on from the run. (David Thiselton 13-5-3)

Race 2
Preview: ROCK THE KAZVAR (12) is by Var out of the useful My Kazzie (Western Winter). GOLDEN DUKE (9) showed pace over 1200m on debut when suffering a speedy cut and finding no extra, so he should enjoy the step down in trip. LIVE BY NIGHT (4) has been run out of it late in his last two starts and has a chance here. (David Thiselton 12-9-4)

Race 3
Preview: IN THE DANCE (2) only just failed to beat Equus Horse Of The Year Oh Susanna over 1400m in the Tibouchina last time out in June and her class can pull her through here. OURO (1) showed signs of a form return last time and at her best will be a contender here. THE FIFTH WAVE (5) looks to be a decent type and can be in shake up from pole position. (David Thiselton 2-1-5)

Race 4
Preview: ALI BON DUBAI (2) has blossomed into a useful stayer and is the one to beat. DAWN ASSAULT (1) won well last time over 2600m following a rest and can go close again if repeating that effort. SUNSHINE SILK (5) is a useful stayer and would not be a surprise winner. (David Thiselton 2-1-5)

Race 5
Preview: MASTER AND MAN (2) has pole position which could be important in this utra competitive event in which many have chances. SLAY THE DRAGON (4) is drawn well in two and went close the last time he tried this course and distance despite casting a shoe. DICKENS (3) has always struck as one with ability and and when stepped up to 2000m last time in the maidens he won easily so is interesting stepped up in trip again. (David Thiselton 2-4-3)

Race 6
Preview: MAJOR RETURN (4) has good form from 1800m to 2400m and should go close here. TOP SHOT (3) has been in good form over further and has a good record over this trip too. RAGOON (5) made a good debut for this yard and is interesting stepped up in trip being by Trippi out of a Sadler’s Wells mare, although the concern is the respiratory noises he makes. (David Thiselton 4-3-5)

Race 7
Preview: PORT KEY (6) has won both of his starts since coming back from a rest of over a year and gelding and he should now be cherry ripe so can overcome a three point raise for the last win if able to overcome a tough draw. NIMCHA (4) went close last time over 1800m and won his only start over this course and distance so should be thereabouts if able to overcome a tricky draw. MATLOOB (7) was a touch disappointing last time when hot favourite over 1800m but he was found to be coughing and can do better. (David Thiselton 6-4-7)

Race 8
Preview: AZTEC (5) made a fair debut after being difficult to load and should go close with a 4kg claimer up. SMILEY RIVER (14) is able to run on well from behind GET SET (1) disappointed in her last start as a two-year-old having not been disgraced behind some good sorts up to 1200m and this looks to be an appropriate distance for her comeback although she has a tough draw. (David Thiselton 5-14-1)
