Target Acquired in Durban and ready for Champions Season campaign
David Thiselton
Dean Kannemeyer's first 10 Champion Season campaigners are at his Clairwood satellite yard already and among them is his exciting Western Winter colt, Target Acquired.
This full-brother to the Joey Ramsden-trained Nania, who won the Grade 1 Thekwini Stakes for juveniles over 1600m at Clairwood in July 2007, is unbeaten in four starts, all of them taking place over 1200m.
His debut was at Clairwood as a juvenile last May and he has run three times at Kenilworth since making his comeback last November.
His merit rating rose to 95 after his most recent win on January 21.
The robust chestnut is currently entered in a conditions race over 1400m at Greyville on Friday, April 17, and in the Grade 3 Byerley Turk for three-year-olds over 1400m at Scottsville on Sunday April 19.
"He is bred to go further, but at this stage he looks like a sprinter," said Kannemeyer. "I would like to run him in the KZN Guineas, so his next start over 1400m will tell us more about him."
Kannemeyer has more Champion Season horses arriving on Tuesday.
His stable star, Grade 1 Cape Guineas winner Le Drakkar, is still in Cape Town at this stage.
