Sibaya sales
A daughter of Klawervlei stallion National Emblem fetched top price for the second year running at the Sibaya Yearling Sale which drew to a close at the Sibaya Casino and Entertainment Kingdom on Friday.

Trainer Kom Naidoo paid R410 000 for Boland Stud’s Model Nation (Lot 289), a half-sister to the well-performed London Guest, and the 7th produce of Model Guest, a daughter of champion broodmare sire Northern Guest.

Six other lots fetched R150 000 or more on this, the second day of the 2008 Sale. They included Riverton Stud’s Lot 212, Moon Raider (Victory Moon), a colt from the family of deceased stallion Divine Act bought by trainer Michael Roberts for R240 000.

Trainer Stan Elley paid R220 000 for Klawervlei’s Trendy Charm (Lot 195), by Mr Prospector stallion E Dubai from an imported mare.

A total of 292 lots were sold for an aggregate of R15 370 000, 16% down on last year’s R18 264 500. The average price of R67 118 was down 10% on last year’s R74 549.

Caroline Simpson, Sales Manager of BSA, said she was very pleased with the results. “We had an excellent turnout of buyers and considering the economic climate the aggregate was satisfactory. There were some really nice specimens on the sale, all the yearlings with good conformation sold well.’’

Jan Naude, CEO of BSA, commented: “The lower aggregate reflects a 10% drop in average and a 6% lower volume as fewer hoses were sold this year which is not bad. The sale was a success overall.’’

The Sibaya Mare, Weanling and Horses-In-Training Sale will take place on Tuesday, 8 July.
