Fradd gets loud in Australia
South African jockey Robbie Fradd’s trip to the Northern Territory, Australia, has paid off after lifting Shout Out Loud to a narrow win in Monday’s Darwin Cup at Fannie Bay racecourse.
Fradd made the trip from his Singapore base to ride at the Darwin Cup carnival and showed astute judgement to allow Shout Out Loud to drop out of the early speed battle in the early stages.
The favourite Hawks Bay and the 2008 Darwin Cup winner Club Liquid took up the running and set a genuine tempo with Fradd stalking the speed on the Kerry Petrick-trained galloper.
Hawks Bay took the lead from Club Liquid late but Fradd got the best out of Shout Out Loud over the last 100m to beat the favourite by a short head. Club Liquid was 3,5 lengths away in third.
Fradd was left on the track after Shout Out Loud dislodged the experienced hoop after winning the $180,000 race.
The 2009 winner Activation finished down the track after
failing to respond to jockey Mark Pegus’s urgings from the
800 metre mark. - Racenet
