Lizard’s Desire fighting for his life
Dubai World Cup runner-up Lizard’s Desire, who lost the world’s richest race in the narrowest of photo-finishes, is suffering from a debilitating and often fatal hoof inflammation.
The five-year-old gelding has laminitis, believed to have been brought on by an earlier bout of enteritis (inflammation of the intestine), and is now undergoing treatment at owner Sheikh Mohammed’s Dubai farm.
Trainer Mike de Kock was quoted on his website as saying: “Ninety-five percent of the time laminitis is deadly, but he’s fighting it with all the determination and courage he showed us in his racing. We’re hoping he’ll pull through.
“He’s a great character. To do Dubai as hard as he did and then go on to run so well in Hong Kong and Singapore says a lot about how special he is.
“It’s heartbreaking for everybody because he’s done a hell of a lot for many people, and the country.” - Racingpost
