Equiparada gets the nod for Woolavington
The Woolavington is an intriguing affair, writes David Thiselton
Equiparada from the Mike de Kock yard has caught the eye with her relaxed style of running and wasn’t under any pressure when winning easily here over 1 900m before running a fine third in testing going in the SA Oaks.
Her stablemate Flirtation is held in high regard. She won very easily over this distance in just her second start.
Atlantic Oak was a facile winner over 1 450m on debut and Anthony Delpech has chosen to ride her above the other De Kock horses. She is by Singspiel and is from the family of Fort Wood, so should enjoy the trip.
De Kock’s Gluwein is a Grade 1 winner over 1600m, but has a question mark over this trip and has been disappointing lately.
The Mike Bass-trained Croc Valley has been just off them in Grade 1s against older horses, so should be a big runner against her own age. She looks likely to stay the trip.
Her stablemate El Jadida has done little wrong and ran on well to win over 1 600m last time, suggesting she would see out further.
Imperious Star is the best filly Derryl Daniels has ever ridden and will be a big runner if bouncing back to her best with Daniels back aboard. She is looking for this sort of trip.
Zahira is a half-sister to Daily News runner up James Jaguar and her form has stood up very well. She could still be anything.
The Alec Laird-trained Jet Trail gets her first good draw in a feature and, having finished close up from a wide draw in the SA Fillies Classic, has a chance here. Spiced Gold won the SA Fillies Classic and needed her last run.
Generous Anna narrowly beat Jet Trail in the SA Fillies Classic and wasn’t disgraced in the SA Oaks. Field Flower will enjoy it more the further she goes according to trainer Stephen Page, so is stepped up to this trip having won the Grade 1 Cape Fillies Guineas. She needed her last run.
Secret Babe ran a cracking third in the KRA Fillies Guineas and is looking for this sort of trip, so has an outside place chance.
Tassie Belle won a Listed race last time over 1 800m against older horses and is spot on again, so could place. The selection is Equiparada to win from Flirtation, Atlantic Oak and Imperious Star with Zahira rated the dark horse
