Pocket Power heads Challenge entries

Champion Pocket Power, who makes his much anticipated Champions Season debut at Greyville Racecourse tonight (Friday, May 21) heads up an entry of 24 for the R750 000 Rising Sun Gold Challenge WFA (Gr1) to be run over 1 600m at Clairwood Racecourse on Saturday, June 12.
The race has attracted most of the top “milers” from around the country including Kapil, Smart Banker, Big City Life and Mother Russia amongst others.
Trainer Mike Bass has made no secret of the fact that this Weight For Age contest was Pocket Power’s ultimate Champion Season’s target and the rest would follow, “as it comes”. Of concern for Pocket Power supporters is his wide draw at 19 while stable companion Fort Vogue, also due to start at Greyville tonight in the Betting World 1900, fared worse at gate 21. J&B Met winner River Jetez, also a starter tonight, drew three.
The Glen Kotzen-trained pair of Big City Life and Fabiani did better at draws eight and five respectively.
Rudra, caught on the line in the recent Champions Challenge (Gr1) at Turffontein last month also drew well at seven while Champions Challenge winner, the Sean Tarry-trained Regal Ransom, drew pole position.
