Mokaro and Noblewood target Lonsdale Stirrup Cup at Greyville on June 5
MICHAEL CLOWER
Mokaro and Noblewood, first and second in last year’s Canon Gold Cup, will begin their Durban seasons in the Lonsdale Stirrup Cup at Greyville on June 5.
Stephen Page said: “Both horses have to leave Cape Town by mid-April and the plan is fairly straightforward – the Lonsdale followed by the Gold Vase and then the Gold Cup.
“My Cape Fillies Guineas winner Field Flower runs in the KRA Fillies Guineas at Greyville on May 2 and the aim for Forest Path is to get him into the Vodacom Durban July.”
A race at Kenilworth on April 10 will determine whether or not Villandry goes to Durban. Last season’s flying two-year-old has yet to win this term and a switch to waiting tactics in the Cape Flying Championship failed to come off.
Vaughan Marshall said: “I don’t think holding him up was the reason for his running that day. I wasn’t happy with him in the parade ring - he was definitely a boy amongst men - and he needs time to strengthen up.”
Racecourse photographer Ricardo de Nobrega marries his assistant Claudia Ferreira on Saturday and he has shaved off his beard in preparation for the big day.
