Big run expected from Siyaadah
Siyaadah bids to give Godolphin a third successive victory in the Listed UAE Oaks Sponsored by Meydan over an extended 1 800m on Tapeta at Meydan tonight (Thursday, February 25)
The three-year-old daughter of Shamardal made a impressive seasonal return on the Tapeta of Dubai’s new state of the art racecourse, coming from last to first to record a length victory in the mile Listed UAE 1,000 Guineas on February 11. She spent last season racing on turf in the UK and ended her juvenile campaign by taking sixth in the Tattersalls Timeform Fillies’ 800 sales race over 1 400m at Newmarket. Siyaadah had previously posted a disappointing effort when finishing down the field in the 1 400m Gr 3 Prestige Stakes at Goodwood in August, but made a promising debut earlier the same month, comfortably taking a Redcar maiden, also over seven furlongs. Ahmed Ajtebi, who rode Siyaadah to her stunning victory in the UAE 1,000 Guineas, takes the ride again. The Godolphin trainer Saeed bin Suroor said: “Siyaadah ran an excellent race in the UAE 1,000 Guineas and I was really pleased with her performance. She proved that she handled Tapeta and she has come out of that race in very good order.
“She looks in great condition at the moment and I don’t think that racing over an extended nine furlongs will be a problem for her.
“We are looking to see another good result from her [tonight].”
Siyaadah takes on seven rivals in the UAE Oaks including Berg Bahn, Mike de Kock’s Raihana, Bikini Babe, Talenta and Mensajera De La Luz, who all finished behind the Godolphin filly in the UAE 1,000 Guineas.
Apart from the previous two winners, Cocoa Beach (2008) and Devotee (2009), Godolphin has also been successful in the UAE Oaks with Laoub (2001), Imperial Gesture (2002), Danuta (2003), and Satin Kiss (2005).
Aspectoflove looks to build on a promising Godolphin debut when she lines up in the Group Three Balanchine at Meydan on turf tonight.
The four-year-old filly steps up to 1 800m after finishing a close second over a mile in the Gr3 Cape Verdi on turf at Meydan on February 5, quickening well in the closing stages to go down by a neck to Soneva.
The Godolphin trainer Saeed bin Suroor commented: “Aspectoflove showed a lot of speed in the Cape Verdi and she has worked very well since then.
“She is ready to race and I am very happy with her at the moment. She was a bit unlucky on her latest start but I am hopeful that the step up to nine furlongs will suit her well.”
Aspectoflove, the mount of Frankie Dettori, races against seven others in the Balanchine including South African Grade One winner Zirconeum, Deem, who took last year’s Cape Verdi, and European Listed winners Ahla Wasahl, Rockette and Vattene. - Godolphin.com
