Justin Snaith comments on his runners in Gr 1 TBA Paddock Stakes
“They are lucky Dancer’s Daughter is still not running,” quipped Snaith.
“Sparkling Gem is very well. It’s a very strong field and it will be a big ask for her. But we are getting 1kg from River Jetez for a one length beating in the Victress which gives us a chance.”
Asked on her stamina capabilities Snaith said, “It will be a challenge for me as a trainer to get her to stay 1800m. People say she doesn’t stay 1600m. I wouldn’t mind having a few more fillies with her form over 1600m!”
Snaith agreed with the general sentiment this season that the three-year-old fillies crop is a weak one and said about his Paddock Stakes contender Townsend, “She’s a very smart young filly but I don’t see any of the three-year-olds giving the top older horses much cheek. Mother Russia, Sparkling Gem and River Jetez are in a class of their own and will be the ones to beat.”
Snaith’s other runner, the six-year-old Jalantra, who was beaten 4,6 lengths by Croc Valley in her last start over 1400m despite being on 1kg better terms than she will be with her on Saturday, looks to have a mountain to climb on recent form.
