De Kock all set for a big carnival
TRAINER Mike de Kock has set up base in United Arab Emirates for the eighth season running. He has a string of 32 horses near the new Meydan Racecourse in Dubai. With a depth of quality unparalleled for his annual Dubai sojourns so far, De Kock could have his most successful season so ever.
He has also raced swiftly past the 1900 winner mark, and a personal milestone of 2000 career winners during the 2010 Dubai Carnival looks a strong possibility. Among De Kock’s new recruits are former Irish Derby winner Frozen Fire and Golden Sword, fifth to Sea The Stars in the Vodafone Derby. Both were formerly trainer by Aidan O’Brien. Boss Professor and Jody are new acquisitions from Brazil and a formidable South African contingent includes SA’s Champion Two-Year-Old Musir, Solid Choice and Mr Crazy Boy.
“The old sand track at Nad Al Sheba has been replaced by an all-weather track which will be the surface for the Dubai World Cup. We’ll be trying Eagle Mountain on the new track and if he goes well, he will be our principle contender for the big race,” De Kock said. The first race meeting of the 2010 Carnival will take place on January 28 and De Kock said: “We are well on target with our training programme, unlike last year when we were behind schedule and had several other setbacks.”
