PE trainer Roux gets red card for doping horses
Port Elizabeth-based trainer Fritz Roux has been warned off according to a press release issued by the National Horseracing Authority (NHA).
The NHA confirmed that Roux had been found guilty in that he was the person responsible for the horses Band Of Brothers and Hippodrome that tested positive for anabolic steroids after they had run in the fourth and eighth races at Arlington on September 25 and October 9 respectively.
The board took into consideration Roux’s previous record over a period of four years, and imposed a sentence of a warning off which in effect means he will not be able to train horses or attend racemeetings.
However, because Roux has the right to appeal the penalty, its implementation is suspended pending the outcome of such an appeal, if he does indeed lodge one.
By reason of this interim suspension, which stays in place pending the finalisation of an appeal, he is not allowed to race any horses trained by himself.
