Round one to Pocket Power
Brendan Pather
The Mike Bass stable were full of confidence in a post race report on their website (mikebassracing.com) after Pocket Power’s 0,75 length defeat of Big City Life over 1 500m at Kenilworth last Saturday.
They felt that the veteran gelding had fired an early warning shot and would not be relinquishing his Queens Plate and J&B Met titles easily.
Mike Bass was thrilled with the run, “Considering the amount of work I have given him in a short amount of time,
he has exceeded my expectations at this stage as I have had to rush his preparation considerably this time around.
“The manner in which he won this race leaves me feeling
a lot more confident going into the upcoming features than I originally anticipated”
Pocket Power remains unbeaten from 13 starts upwards of 1 400m at Kenilworth.
Kotzen camp also bullish
Meanwhile, the Kotzen stable were equally buoyant after Big City Life’s run. James Everett, media liaison for the Glen Kotzen stable, said that “he pulled up perfectly fine.
“We’re over the moon with the run and he will come on leaps and bounds.”
Everett confirmed that Big City Life’s next start would be
the Queen’s Plate en route to the J&B Met, his main mission this summer.
“He ran a great race considering that the trip was too short. We will probably give him a gallop in two weeks as a lead up to the Queen’s Plate.
Sean (Cormack) jumped off and said that he’s the horse to beat in the Met.”
