Aslan not going fot Cape Features
David Thiselton
Sean Tarry said yesterday that his Summer Cup winner, Aslan, would definitely not be going down to the Cape for the Sizzling Summer Season.
Tarry, asked whether the win last Saturday was his biggest career success since he trained Angus to win the J&B Met in 2003, replied, ‘I haven’t really thought about it. The race was his obvious target.
“I was not happy with his preparation, but everything worked out well on the day. He was drawn well, had a light weight and Felix rode a great race.”
Comparing Aslan to his two recent stalwart Grade 1 mile to middle distance campaigners, Successful Bidder and Buy And Sell, Tarry said, “He’s a very different type of horse to either of those two.
“He’s still immature, is progressive and stays well. He will get better.”
Tarry did not buy Aslan (the horse was sent to him), but commenting on his sire, Silvano, he said, “His progeny are workmanlike, I like them.”
Aslan is out of an unraced Elliodor mare. His owners are the Brooklyn Bullet Trust (Nominee AJ Joseph) and LM Leisher.
He was bred by Glenellen Stud.
