Jet set for Ascot
JJ The Jet Plane is set to revert to six furlongs (1 200m)
at Ascot next Sunday following his run at Newbury last Saturday.
The South African import, formerly trained by Mike de Kock, will go for the Group Two John Guest Diadem Stakes after taking third place behind Strike The Deal in the Dubai Duty Free World Trophy over the minimum trip.
“It was very encouraging seeing JJ run so well in the big sprint, and we will step him back up to six furlongs and have a crack at the Diadem Stakes at Ascot next weekend,” said trainer Richard Hannon.
“It has been frustrating, but he improved in each of his three runs for us and sometimes it takes a while for a horse to settle down in new surrounds.
“We are getting to know him, and him us, and Jimmy (Fortune) was very positive about him on Saturday, so he’ll definitely be going to Ascot.
“Fast ground suits JJ The Jet Plane,” he told richardhannonracing.tv.
Group win for Fallon
Meanwhile, Kieren Fallon’s win on Strike The Deal was his first Group-race winner since returning from an 18-month ban.
The former champion moved up to 18 winners and this Group Three was the most prestigious of his haul so far.
Fallon had shown the magic touch on Strike The Deal (9-2) at Doncaster and the pair clicked again as they came with an irresistible finish to spoil the party for Total Gallery.
Trainer Jeremy Noseda said: “Going back to five
furlongs has been helpful but so has Kieren - he just has this ability to get him to go to sleep and to come with the late run.
“You have to strike while the iron is hot with sprinters so we might look at the Diadem next week. He must have fast ground.”
Fallon said: “His confidence is starting to flow, he’s picking up and starting to win his races.
“We’ve always had a lot of faith in this horse and he is starting to repay us now.
“He came back on the bridle at halfway and it was just a matter of picking my spot.”
On riding his first Group-race winner back, Fallon added: “Hopefully this is just the start.”
