De Beer fined
Trainer W J de Beer was fined R40 000 last week after his horse, Staying Alive, tested positive for Furosemide (Lasix) after a race at Flamingo Park in February of this year. At a National Horseracing Authority inquiry De Beer's plea of not guilty was dismissed by the board.
The board imposed a fine of R40 000, of which R10 000 was suspended for a period of two years.
De Beer has the right of appeal against the finding and the penalty imposed and Staying Alive was disqualified from the race. All stakes must be refunded.
