Exclaim’N’Exclude on the up (part 2 of 2)
David Thiselton (continues from part 1 of 2)
Rudi Rocks and Handsome Bullion would both prefer further than this.
The selection is Exclaim ‘N’Exclude, if he runs, to win from Jet Command with Blue Voyager, Good Thing and Nimley next best.
The seventh, a Graduation Plate over 1 000m, is an interesting race with two talented three-year-old fillies, the Dominic Zaki-trained Ibrox Park and the Duncan Howells-trained La Pucelle facing older horses.
The pair are best in at the weights on official merit-rated terms, but only 0,5kg better off than the Michael Roberts-trained four-year-old St. Francis Court. St. Francis Court ran a good race race over 1 000m last time from a wide draw at Greyville and the form has worked out well.
It's a small field but she is drawn on the right side.
Ibrox Park won her comeback run having had a break after finishing just over seven lengths back in the Allan Robertson. She should be close to her peak now.
La Pucelle returns from a longer rest, since April, and the preference for third place is the Julie Dittmer-trained Ready For Roses, whose only win came over this course and distance, and she ran a good race last time over this distance at Scottsville. One of the most interesting horses on the card is the Charles Laird-trained Draconian, who was an easy winner of one of the strongest recent maidens, which was an event over 1 200m at Clairwood.
He could be something special and is likely to relish the step up in trip in the sixth, a Graduation Plate over 1 600m. He is also well drawn, but he does have a huge task at the weights having just turned three.
The Mike Bass-trained Lancelin has caught the eye in his last two starts, a first and a second in handicaps over this distance.
This is now his third run after a break and he has plenty of experience around the turn, unlike Draconian who has never raced around the turn.
The Craig Eudey-trained Tamarillo won over this course and distance against a good field in his penultimate and coupled with his ability he seems to have a lot of heart too. The Zaki raider Fort Petersburg won his last Durban start in a Listed event over this distance at Greyville and must be a contender, while the Alyson Wright-trained Whole Kaboodle would have benefited from his first run after a break last time over a too short 1 200m.
The selection is Lancelin to beat home Draconian, with Tamarillo, Fort Petersburg and Whole Kaboodle next best.
