Keeping an eye on The Weather (Part 2 of 2)
David Thiselton - continues from part 1
Big Light didn’t do as well as usual over 1 950m last time and this consistent sort should bounce back from a good draw over a more suitable trip.
Legal Maxim has a tough merit rating of 86, having just turned three, but has proved equal to the task by finishing close up in two handicaps over 1 600m since his maiden win, including last time over this course and distance. His wide draw is a concern.
In the sixth, a MR 70 Handicap over 1 950m, the Dennis Bosch-trained Surge Blanco should be considered in a weak and open event.
This gelding seems to enjoy Scottsville and didn’t fare badly overcourse and distance, last time from a much tougher draw.
Irresistible found some support over 1 600m here last time and should much prefer this distance.
Heligan took a while to win his maiden but was confidently backed last time over 1800m and obliged.
He should be fit coming down from the Highveld and is drawn well.
In the seventh, a MR 88 Handicap over 1 000m, there are a number of horses including Candy Tuft, Share The Silver, Press For Peace and Jenna The Pink that have good course and distance form, but at the allocated weights Candy Tuft appears to have the edge, although this could be alleviated to a degree by Share The Silver and Jenna The Pink having a 4kg and 2,5kg claimers aboard respectively.
Arewehavingfunyet caught the eye over 1000m at Greyville last time but hasn’t been as good down the straight to date.
In the last, a MR 74 Handicap over 1 000m, the Yogas Govender-trained Western Baby won well over course and distance last time despite hanging in late and in this vein of form she could handle her four point raise.
Bold Alliance went close when dropped back to the minimum trip for the first time at this course and is only one point higher. Irish Eminence won his maiden well over 1200m here and was outclassed in a Grade 1 race last time, so is worth another chance.
Gleneagles has plenty of ability, but apparently doesn’t always put it in. In his last start he was simply outclassed in a feature so that run can be ignored.
Ricky My Son never runs a bad race over this course and distance.
