Legal Account to top up another win
DAVID THISELTON
The first two juvenile feature races of the KZN season are run at Clairwood on Sunday, both being non-black-type events over 1 000m.
The first of them, the King’s Pact Stakes for fillies, looks the more open of the two. The Paul Lafferty-trained Legal Account was quite impressive on debut when coming from some way back to collar English Aspen just before the line.
Legal Account was the biggest outsider in the field that day as she was one of only two maidens and was underdone in terms of fitness.
She should have improved considerably. The one concern is her apparent lack of early pace. However, apprentice Jassurick Jordaan did say he had held her up deliberately on the day as he was concerned about the slightly soft going.
The Dave Goss-trained All Colours won well on debut and the form of that race has worked out well. She beat Furious Dancer by a length with the rest of the field way back. Furious Dancer went on to be a facile winner of his next start.
The David Kuit-trained English Aspen is a very speedy filly and now has the advantage of having a top jockey, Sean Cormack, aboard.
Furthermore she is 2,5kg better off with Legal Account for a 0,75 length beating. The Steve Benton-trained National Guru won well second time out over 800m, but was beaten 6,25 lengths by English Aspen on debut.
Kwacha surprised the De Kock yard on debut and didn’t beat much but with the De Kock-Delpech combination in devastating form she can’t be discounted.
The first-timer Fancy Flutter from the Gavin van Zyl yard is by Kahal and is a half-brother to the Grade 2 winning sprint-miler First Again, so with her 2kg weight advantage she has to be seriously considered. The betting should be monitored. The selection is Legal Account to win from All Colours and English Aspen. In the Sentinel Stakes the Mike Miller-trained Countless Times should provide an armchair ride for Sean Cormack on his last weekend meeting before leaving for Singapore. On debut this Count Du Bois colt lost a length and was very green but still won under hands and heels, beating Furious Dancer by 1,25 lengths. Even the 2,5kg turnaround in weights should not be enough for Furious Dancer to turn the tables. The only danger to the exacta for this pair will be the Kumaran Naidoo-trained first-timer Go Go Loochee. He is by Cataloocheee whose progeny caught the eye at the Ready To Run Sale so the betting should once again be monitored.
