Fort Vogue MR appeal upheld
The National Horseracing Authority report that an appeal was lodged by trainer Mike Bass on behalf of the horse FORT VOGUE against the Merit Rating of 112 that was allocated after running fourth in the R2 500 000 J&B Met, a Grade I race over 2 000m at Kenilworth Racecourse on 30 January 2010.
An independent panel consisting of Messrs K Miedema, P Davis and G Hawkins was convened to hear the appeal on February 10 via teleconference.
The panel were of the unanimous opinion that a more appropriate line horse to assess the level of the race was the runner-up MOTHER RUSSIA (MR 106) and not FABIANI as determined by the Handicapping Panel and therefore upheld the objection and amended FORT VOGUE’s MR to a 106. The winner RIVER JETEZ’s MR would be 104.
