Cormack to ride in Singapore
SOUTH African jockey Sean Cormack will soon be joining the riding ranks in Singapore.
The 39-year-old, who is currently licensed by the National Horse Racing Authority of South Africa, has been granted a six-month visiting jockey’s licence which commences on 1 March and ends on 31 August 2010.
A 20-year veteran of the saddle, Cormack has ridden in excess of 830 winners, including 24 “black type” victories of which two have been at Group 1 level.
He was the champion jockey of KwaZulu-Natal in the 2005/06 season, finishing 14th in the overall South African premiership before finishing third and tenth respectively the following season.
Six months in Australia followed for leading Brisbane trainer Bruce McLachlan before a fall curtailed that stint, returning home where he currently sits second on the KwaZulu-Natal table and in eighth place on the overall South African premiership.
Leading yards
Cormack has ridden for leading South African trainers including Dennis Drier, Basil Marcus, Gary Alexander, Herman Brown and Paul Lafferty with success also for Charles Laird and Glen Kotzen.
Besides South Africa and Australia, Cormack has also experienced racing in Macau and Mauritius.
Cormack goes to scale at 53kg.
