Twice Over begins World Cup prep
TWICE OVER started his Dubai World Cup preparation yesterday morning with his first gallop of the year on Newmarket’s Al Bahathri polytrack.
The son of Observatory notched a first Group 1 success when beating Mawatheeq in the Emirates Airline Champion Stakes at Newmarket last October and his first experience of racing on an artificial surface resulted in an honourable third to super mare Zenyatta on the Pro-Ride at Santa Anita in the Breeders’ Cup Classic the following month.
The Khalid Abdullah-owned five-year-old, who is the general 6-1 second favourite for the World Cup, earned a break after that effort but will continue his preparation in earnest from now on with a racecourse gallop quite likely to come into the equation.
His trainer Henry Cecil, who arrived back in Newmarket from holidaying in Dubai earlier this week, said: “Twice Over is in very good form and he had his first bit of work back when working with his lead horse this morning.
“At this stage I am delighted with him and if he does have a racecourse gallop it could be at the beginning of next month. Nothing has been decided on that, but he will go out to Dubai pretty late in the day.” - Racingpost
