US jockeys outed
Two US jockeys have been suspended after an inquiry was concluded into a bizarre mid-race punch-up between the pair in Pennsylvania in January.
Erilius Vaz was suspended for 200 days after being found guilty of punching Ademar Santos in the back straight of a Philadelphia Park event conducted on January 8.
The inquiry found Santos initially yelled at Vaz who then struck Santos to the face before the pair traded blows while riding their mounts at high speed.
Vaz landed the last blow after hitting Santos across the back of the head with his whip handle.
Stewards acknowledged Vaz the aggressor but slapped Santos with a 90-day suspension with both bans backdated to January 9. Santos will be allowed to return to the track on April 9 while Vaz will be able to return on July 28.
