De Kock continues to raise the bar (part 2 of 2)
De Kock continues to raise the bar (part 2 of 2)

continues from part 1 of 1 - David Thiselton

In his final July preparation run he won the Grade 2 Gold Circle Derby over 2450m at Clairwood, also on fast ground, beating stablemate Happy Valley.
The latter is a white horse with a big heart, the type who looks like he could gallop forever. He had all the makings of a crowd favourite, but will unfortunately be leaving with De Kock’s Dubai team.
Bold Silvano
Bold Silvano’s potential was evident when an immature horse with Gavin Smith and he came into his own after joining De Kock, filling out into the big strong horse he was always destined to be.
He won the Grade 2 Greyville 1900 before going on to July glory, a race that he and Irish Flame dominated.
Jockey Anthony Delpech compared Bold Silvano with the best horse he had ever ridden, the Hong Kong-based Vengeance Of Rain, while De Kock said he could be a better Dubai World Cup prospect than Lizard’s Desire.
Ancestral Fore was prepared for the Canon Gold Cup and duly won it comfortably.
Lizarre joined De Kock after impressing with his third in the Daily News 2000 when with Mike Miller.
He was the fancy of many to win the July as he was now receiving weight from both Irish Flame and Bold Silvano, but from his wide draw of 20 he was never in the hunt.
Absolute Heretic hasn’t had a run for De Kock yet and is part of his overseas team, but has impressed the yard with his fantastic stride.
All in all De Kock won 151 races in the South African season, including 10 Grade 1s, for earnings of R22,3 million.
