Kotzen and Silvano dominate feature race
David Thiselton
The Glen Kotzen yard and the stallion Silvano dominated the feature race at Scottsville yesterday, the Listed Off To Stud Handicap for fillies and mares over 1800m, running first and second with Reconcile and Clematis.
Anton Marcus, who rode Reconcile, said that the race had not panned out as expected as he had expected to be in the first two or three in the running.
Instead he came from near the back of the 15 horse field.
Reconcile has a fine turn of foot and, eating up the ground late, he caught Clematis ridden by Derryl Daniels in the last stride.
It was Reconcile's second Listed win over this course and distance in the Champions Season having won the Scarlet Lady in May.
Reconcile, a four-year-old filly by Silvano, is owned by Fred Crabbia and was bred by Klawervlei Stud.
Clematis, also a four-year-old Silvano filly, was 5kg under sufferance so she ran a great race.
Reconcile started joint 3-1 favourite with the Mike de Kock-trained Candy Singer, who ran third ahead of Sofala and Clarkies Promise.
