Klawervlei new sponsors of Majorca Stakes
The R500 000 Grade 1 Majorca Stakes, one of the most important Weight For Age (WFA) races for fillies and mares on the national calendar, has a new sponsor. Klawervlei Stud has undertaken to support the race following the withdrawal of previous sponsor, Fancourt. The race will now be known as the Klawervlei Majorca Stakes to be run over 1600m on J&B Met day.

Klawervlei Stud Chief Executive Officer, Mr John Koster, said that the Stud was delighted to accept the opportunity to sponsor the race.

“The Majorca Stakes is extremely important as far as the breeding industry is concerned as it is one of the few Grade 1 events for fillies and mares. It is also fitting, from a historical perspective, that Klawervlei has accepted to sponsor the race since it is named after the champion filly Majorca who was bred at Klawervlei by my grandfather, Ralph.”

While thanking Fancourt for their sponsorship, Graeme Hawkins, Gold Circle’s Racing Director said it was with great pleasure that Gold Circle welcomed Klawervlei on board as a first time sponsor.

“The race has been won by many very smart fillies over the years and a quality event deserves a quality sponsor.”

Alongside the J&B Met and the Investec Cape Derby, the Klawervlei Majorca Stakes is one of three Grade 1 feature events on the J&B Met card to be run at Kenilworth on Saturday, January 30, 2010.
