Archipenko retired to stud
ARCHIPENKO, a winner of five Group races on three continents, including the 2008 Group 1 Audemars Piquet QEII Cup at Sha-Tin for trainer Mike de Kock, has been retired to stud at Lanwades Stud, United Kingdom.
A son of leading international sire Kingmambo and the Nijinski mare Bound, Archipenko is from the most prolific stallion producing family in the stud book and was interestingly rated 2lbs higher by Timerform than his own sire.
Situated in Newmarket, England, where thoroughbred racehorses have been bred for more than 300 years, Lanwades in one of the very few stallion studs in England still managed by its owner, Kirsten Rausing.
Lanwades Stud, has since January 1999, bred or raised the winners of more than 686 races worldwide, including 69 Group or Listed wins.
Rausing, who is also Chairperson of the UK Thoroughbred Breeders’s Association, commented: “We are of course delighted to announce that Archipenko is joining the stallion ranks at Lanwades.
“He is a marvellously well-bred horse with
great performance, being a winner every year
from 2 to 5 years and with lovely looks and temperament.
“I shall certainly be breeding my very best mares to him - including dual Champion Stakes winner and World Top-Rated 3-year-old filly, Albodara as well as her multiple Group One-producing dam, Alouette,” she added.
De Kock said: “Archipenko, or ‘Archie’, as we called him, will be fondly remembered as a favourite in the stable and a wonderful horse to train.
“We’ll be following his stud career with interest.”
