Sibaya Sales hold their own

The increasingly popular Sibaya Yearling Sale kept the buyers and auctioneers on their toes during the 2 days of selling at Sibaya Casino recently. Many expected a drop in excess of 20 %, and therefore the final figures were seen as a positive outcome in a gloomy economic climate both locally and internationally.
With 300 lots catalogued, a pass out rate of 82.6% was achieved. A drop of 10.6% (R14.1-million from 2008’s R15.765-million) on aggregate and only 9.4% on average price (R60,776 vs 2008’s R67,085).
Glen Kotzen, successfully bid on behalf of Fred Crabbia to secure the sale topper, Lot 211 for R400,000. An Australian-bred filly (Fusaichi Pegasus / La Favorita) consigned by Burwell Stud. Burwell Stud also topped the Vendor aggregate and average statistics for their 5 yearlings catalogued. Var (USA), is also performing well, filling the Top Sire position on aggregate.
BloodStock SA is currently preparing for the Emperors Palace National Two Year Old Sale, which will be at the TBA Sales Complex on Friday 14 to Sunday 16 August. There are a number of strong pedigrees in this 450 lot catalogue and the buyers who have a keen eye for quality should get these at a fair price. The National Two Year Old sale has recently produced a number of champions, including J J The Jet Plane.
