Shongweni Sale Wednesday, Feb 25

The Sun Coast Casino is the latest addition to the list of casino sponsors of thoroughbred sales following on Sibaya, Grand West and Emperor’s Palace.
Sun Coast are the new sponsors of the annual Michael Holmes Bloodstock Shongweni Sale which will be held at the Shongweni polo grounds this Wednesday, February 25.
Sun Coast are offering R20 000 worth of sponsorship to graduates of the sale with R7 500 of Sun Coast spend going to the owner/s of the first two-year-old sold at the sale to win a race and the same for the owner/s of the first horse in training to win a race after the sale.
The trainers of each of these horses will receive R2 500 of Sun Coast spend.
Eugene Boniface of Sun Coast said, “There is a strong association between Durban and horseracing, with the Vodacom Durban July being one of the country’s premier sporting events. We saw this as an opportunity to align ourselves with this association. We hope to benefit from the opportunity and hope the horses sold at the sale go on to do well, especially in association with the July day racing.”
Wednesday’s sale starts at 11 am and 154 lots will come under the hammer including, horses in training, broodmares and 34 two-year-olds.
The sale usually creates much interest as racegoers have the chance to select horses in training that they’ve had the opportunity to watch in action, while the two-year-olds, of which 19 lots come from Chris Saunders’ Invermooi Stud, are the most mature juveniles on offer at any sale in the country.
