Top filly dies
WENDYWOOD, next to Dancer's Daughter arguably South Africa's best race filly, died on Friday night after suffering a severe bout of colic. "My assistants were quickly on the scene and Wendywood was rushed to the clinic for surgery, but we lost the battle,'' said her bitterly disappointed trainer Sean Tarry. Four-year-old Wendywood amazingly won a Grade 1 race in her second career start, then finished 3.8 lengths behind Dancer's Daughter and Pocket Power in the Durban July. She won R380 000 in three starts for owner Chris van Niekerk and was considered to be Tarry's trump card for the 2008/9 season. - Freeracer.com
