Memorable day for Schofield
FORMER South African jockey Glyn Schofield roared to the top of the Sydney log last Saturday after booting home four winners at Rosehill Gardens, reports Racingweb’s Jeff Zerbst.
Currently riding in the best form of his life, Schofield was successful aboard We Betcha (5-2F) and Little Surfer Girl (17-1) for Chris Waller, Winter King (8-10F) for David Payne and Mustard (25-1) for John McNair.
The win aboard Mustard is the one that had pundits shaking their heads in wonder. After all, Gosford trainer McNair’s charge is a 13-year-old gelding who was having his 108th start.
Schofield was amazed at his mount’s win.
“The only previous time I’ve ridden a 13-year-old horse was on the beach at Bali a couple of weeks ago,” he said.
“This bloke just took off when I asked him too. He is a credit to himself and his trainer.”
Schofield is also a credit to himself and the SA academy where he learnt his craft.
