Bravura out of Vodacom Durban July
Michael Clower

Bravura, 6-1 favourite for the Vodacom Durban July on July 31 when he suffered a three-week setback in April, will miss the big race.
Joey Ramsden said: “He’s doing fine and he has been working well but the prep races don’t fit in and I’ve decided not to run him in the July. I will keep him for the summer when the J & B Met will be his main aim.”
The Cape Derby winner would have been the only unbeaten horse in the field but the betting has told its own story in recent weeks with the three-year-old drifting like a lost cause, right out to 33-1.
Confidence is growing in the Snaith camp about 2008 Cape Derby winner Russian Sage’s July chance and the stable is expecting a big run in the Thukela Handicap at Clairwood on Saturday.
Justin Snaith said: “Russian Sage has been doing very well and I couldn’t be happier with him. Richard Fourie rides on Saturday and it will be the horse’s last race before the July.”
However Mokaro’s stable believe that last year’s winner is really up against it in the Canon Gold Cup on the same card.
Stephen Page explained: “It hasn’t been easy for him in Durban and he hasn’t been well. The Cup Trial was his first race of the campaign and he might still need the run.”
