ALEXANDER VLADESCU

The Gold Circle Owner of the month for September has been awarded to Alexander Vladescu.

From apprentice jockey and stable employee in England in 1959 to successful owner and small breeder in South Africa is the story of racing’s Alexander Vladescu and, for his success over the past few months, he has been declared owner of the month for September.

With size and weight problems bringing his riding career in England to a halt he came to South Africa in 1994 and began owning horses here in 2003. As a small-time breeder the first horse he bred, Mettys Dream, was a winner and he now has interests in nine horses in training as well as a mare and five two-year-olds and yearlings on Rob Pickering’s stud in the Midlands.

He is involved in horses with Mark Dixon, Dennis Bosch and Bart Rice and his four-year-old gelding Occhi Di Lupo has won his last three races impressively.

Having loved horses and racing all his life, he says: “nothing is better than having a winner.”
