The Gold Circle Owner Of The Month Award for January has been bestowed on Karuna (KP) Naidoo and Preggie Somasundram

Owning racehorses is driven by passion for the thoroughbred and a game of extreme patience but the pleasure and the “highs” of success when they are experienced overshadows the disappointments that are faced in the highly competitive sport.

For KP and Preggie there have been highs and lows over the 15 years he has been involved in racing with the biggest high coming on January 17 at Scottsville when their three-year-old Dynasty colt Delotto, trained by Kumaran Naidoo, won the Michael Roberts Handicap.

KP’s involvement in racing began as a schoolboy when he began betting on the Place Accumulator and some years later a friend introduced him to trainer Paul Lafferty and he bought a share in the filly Russian Finger. Since then there have been many horses in which he has been involved and currently he and Preggie have four horses including a weanling.

“Winning the Michael Roberts Handicap is my biggest success to date but I have had a number of winners over the years with the various horses I have been involved in.”
