There is no greater achievement in South African racing than winning the Vodacom Durban July and for Anthony it was his third success having won on Classic Flag and Greys Inn before.

His win for Mike de Kock on Bold Silvano was a copybook ride having the colt perfectly placed, delivering him at the right moment to snatch the lead then driving him out strongly in the finish to hold off stable companion Irish Flame.

His winning tally for the month was nine, three short of Felix Coetzee who showed he was still one of the finest riders in the country, but Anthony’s masterful ride in the big race was in itself worthy of the award.
